To remove the oil filter you need the special Honda oil filter wrench (part number 07HAA-PJ70101.

It has a shorter body compared to regular oil filter wrenches which allows you to be able to slide it over the oil filter in the small space behind the header pipes. Easy!

I took the filter off by hand it was easy... make sure you cover the headers with tin foil or else you'll get some nasty burnoff when you start your bike

+1 on just buying the tool. One came with my bike, but I've seen them at dealers for 15-20 bucks. Makes thinks a lot easier and helps to not burn your hands. I definetly suggest it.

I think you just pry the flapper open. I've heard mixed results as to whether or not it does anything... maybe just at low RPMs cuz its designed to open up at high RPMs so.... I also heard that it prompts a warning light. I haven't done it personally, but if you decide you wanna do it, let us know what you think!!!

Ok, cool.

Now, what hose do you put the marble in to do the PAIR mod?

AHh... I had the other Honda Special Tool. Now I need this Honda Special Tool. Gotcha!

I got some oil on the headers but I just blasted it off with some contact cleaner when I was done.

I tossed in a K&N air filter today, new grips and removed the sticker from the tail so that it is just bright red.

Next upgrade is the PAIR mod as soon as I can figure out which hose to plug.

Next purchase is a new windscreen, some Metler M3's and then a steering damper.

I had a Scotts/Ohlins rotary damper on my F4i and loved it. Should I get one for the 954rr? Or is there another decent and not-too-expensive alternative that is easy to mount and maintain and doesn't get in the way?

Thanks!

Pick up a strap wrench at your local hardware or parts store, they work wonders on all oil filters. You can't go wrong, I think that I bought one from a flea market for $1.

Nevermind, found it in the manual.

Has everyone else done this mod to cut down on the "crackling" on deceleration? I know that it also helps when dyno tuning so that you get the proper air-fuel readings.

Alright, PAIR mod was so easy. Didn't even have to remove the tank or fairing to do it. Just remove the air dict cover on the right hand side, and the PAIR vacuum hose is right there. Pope it off of the airbox, wedge a standard size marble in it and reattach it. Took 5 minutes.

Next stop, new tires and then a steering damper.

I will finish it off with a power commander and either keep the existing slipon or move to a full Hindle or Yoshi system.
