Lowering '03 954rr Front - How Low?
#11
Lowering straps for the front are designed for drag racing purposes only. I keep mine on my bike for when I go to the drag strip. I would not ride on the street with the front lowered this way. The forks are not able to work properly if you have the straps tight. I had to remove preload from my forks when I go drag racing to get a 2" drop. With my normal riding preload I could not get even an inch drop with the straps. If you are not into hard riding on the street then I would just loosen the triple trees and raise the forks up through the triple trees dropping the front so the forks can still work properly. You could then stiffen the forks with preload, rebound and compression to keep your front fender from hitting the bottom of the headlight. If you do like to ride hard on the street then you need to look at other ways to lower the front because raising the forks will change how your bike handles. Changing the springs in the forks would probably be the safest way to lower your bike.
