Lowering '03 954rr Front - How Low?
Ur not going to get more than 1 1/2'' without hitting ur front fender on hard braking or bottoming out on bumps. there are bikes out there that can be dropped 3 to 4 inches and still clear damn near everything. the 954 is not one of them, i know from experience.
I actually bought a 2-4 inch lowering link for the back. I'm a short guy and was gonna drop it on he 4 inch notch. I'm also extending the swingarm 6" so with the geometry of the extension, that should raise it half an inch for a total of 3 1/2". Can I modify the fender to accommodate this drop. It's getting painted anyways.
4? damn good luck wit that. Had mine lowered 2 in the rear and 1 1/2 in the front wit stretch blocks and would bottom out on any bump. even with my 160lb twin brother riding it he would bottom out. post pics tho when done....
mines been lowered a good 2-3 inches. i have no problems with handling. i scrape on speed bumps if i dont hit em at the right speed but other than that no problems. never hit the front fender. but i played with the forks a little. im about 125 pounds so that helps...
Also you have your lowering strap mounted in the wrong place on the fork. It should be connected to the top caliper bolt on each side then run up over the top of the frame between the gas tank and triple tree. Make sure you go under all the cables going under the tank. This way you barely notice the lowering strap and the release buckle will be out of sight behind the fairing.
yep yep... i know about the front straps. Getting it re strapped before I ride it again this weekend. But I didn't know about the sliders. I'll also look into that and get it put on in case the bike should fall on its side.
