ignition
Well for some reason my other thread got deleted before I had my question answered. Since my bike is missing the key can I purchase an ignition and key off eBay and just plug it in or do these need programmed to the bike like all the new cars are?
You can switch the ignition and it work fine. Just make sure you get the ignition, gas cap and rear seat lock as a set. You may want to call your local Honda dealer because they may be able to make a key for the bike using the VIN. If not try a local locksmith before buying another ignition.
As for your deleted thread I know how you feel. There are certain moderator's going around deleting anything they want. I know because they deleted my post from your thread before the entire thing was deleted. I have also had other threads deleted in the past few weeks. If it continues I am leaving this site for good.

Don't know on the 954 but the F3 uses a gi-normous torx (x2), to hold the
ignition in place.
+1 on the whole gas-cap, helmet-lock and ignition. Bolt-on replacement is
the way to go.
Either, estate or adrenalin (I think it's, one of the 2), have a write-up on
removing a locked-down gas-cap. Pulling the screws doesn't do it. The cap
itself, locks over the flange on the tank.
After you do all of this, write the number on the key down. Somewhere that,
you'll find it later. I used a 'sharpie' permenant marker and wrote it on the
inside-lid of my toolbox.
Go to a lock-smith NOW (usually, it's a 'no-go' at the hardware store),
get a couple of extra cut. You'll be glad you did, later.
Good luck, Ern

My buell has securty type bolts holding the ignition on, but a little work with a dremel to a cheap torx bit and voila!
