ok... Here is the story. I recently purchased a 02 cbr 954 from a guy off of craigslist. I just have this funny feeling that there is something shady about the deal. regardless i have the bike and i was wondering if there was anyway i can make sure that the bike is truly a 954 because i can tell that the plastics on the bike have been replaced, the frame has been polished prolly because it was laid down, the undertail sticker on the inside says 900rr. PLEASE HELP......

 

What year does the VIN emblem say on the left side of the frame? If it's '02 or '03, it's a 954. Or check the VIN's tenth digit - should be a 2 for a 2002. If it is a Y or 1, it's a 2000 or 2001 model, and it's a 929.

I dont think the fairings are interchangeable,929 has a 2 piece lower fairing and 954 1 piece,but check the vin #

 

The front and side fairings can be changed between the 2 with small mods. Ive seen it. The tail section cannot be changed due to the subframe and frame.

The frame being polished probably has nothing to do with the bike being dropped. If that were the case then the fame would be damaged and you would know it. I polished my frame because at the time I wanted it polished......
