Firstly, welcome to CBRF!

Secondly, we're going to need some more information from you. For starters, what bike do you have and what kind of condition is it in? I would also highly recommend reposting this thread in the appropriate sub-forum for your particular model of bike. You will get a much better response to your question. Only a few of us hardcore welcome people venture with any regularity in here. Good luck with finding a solution to your problem!

By the looks of things you have a 954? The shift fork maybe be bent. You can get to them through the bottom of the bike without taking it all apart depending on your skill and where you will be working on the bike I would drop the motor but I have done it before, if that is too much you will need some stands. this is what the manual says. Get a manual!!!! worth it's weight in gold!!! More info on what your plan is to work on it.

Transmission jumps out of gear

Worn gear dogs and slots
Bent fork shaft
Broken shift drum stopper
Worn or bent shift forks
Broken shift linkage return spring

Cheapest is to download it somewhere but I like having the book with me outside. You can start with taking the left and right side fairings off and putting them somewhere safe. The put the bike up on stands (milk crates if your cheap) Drain the oil and then remove the oil pan. This one had other issues but you can see up into the transmission with the oil pan off.

Whoa!!! I read another one of your posts. Is the clutch just slipping??? If it isn't just popping out of gear under a heavy load maybe it's your clutch. You are hearing it? I think maybe you need to have someone see if it's just the clutch.

sorry to thread jack a tad, i am having the same problem....02 954..1,2,3,5,6 gears work fine. as soon as i let out on the clutch in 4th gear it makes a kinda of clacking sound(usually a few clacks) and acts like its in neutral but you can shift to 5th and 6th just fine. i end up just skipping 4th gear when riding it around town....

That sounds like a shift fork is bent.

U can try the shift fork first. But more then likely you will need to do some trans work. I went through 2 transmissions. 4th gear was the first to go. Then followed by 2nd gear. I guess you could say I am a little hard on my bike? I finally had all the gears undercut and cryo hardened. Shouldn't have any more problems. If you are going to tear the motor apart, be prepared to spend the money and do it right the first time. This is something you don't want to do again. Especially during riding season.
