Grips

Thinking about replacing my grips,I would like something more comfortable. On long rides my hands get numb from the vibrations. What do you guys have or recommend?

theskater101388 01-12-2010 01:18 AM

never really felt enough vibration on mine to make my hands go numb?... if you feel your hands going numb that could be a sign of holding your body up too much by the bars and not supporting enough of your weight by your legs. just a little FYI, idk ur situation though lol.

Lepperfish 01-12-2010 03:01 AM

Just check out some grips online.

I do support most of my weight with my legs,I am just looking around to see if anybody has experienced with any grips that would be more comfortable. Thanks for the info.

Thanks lepperfish for the google, but I thought I'd ask people on this forum who ride Hondas for their input and experience.I guess I can also buy all the grips available and test them out but that would be a little much.

theskater101388 01-13-2010 03:44 PM

i think the point he is trying to get across is that grips are not a honda specific product. if people find grips to be very comfy on a gixxer, they are going to feel the same on our bikes too. its not like figuring out which pipe sounds nice on 954's where only we would have an opinion. theyre a universal thing.....

letsride 01-13-2010 06:14 PM

Would it help more if I asked "What kind of grips do you have? How do you like them? Are they comfortable? What do you recommend?"

American Psycho 954 01-16-2010 12:54 PM

I got a set of harris grips from ebay for around 15 bucks.... and i love them. they have all different color schemes to match your bike, and for 15 bucks if you dont like them your really not wasting to much money. My throttle hand almost gets close to numb sometimes, i feel that on any bike im on....a quick shake of the hand works for me. If you want to spend a little more, ive heard driven and spyder grips are really good.

randyjoy 01-16-2010 01:39 PM

I have the ProGrip Sportbike Race grips (model 780) on my trackbike, very comfortable even after an hour of railing it. On my 954, I have the Harris Sportbike Grip with "CBR" logo. Also very comfortable. Between the two, the ProGrip has a little more cushion.

letsride 01-16-2010 01:47 PM

I've been looking at the driven d3 grips, look very nice and some reviews say that they are very comfortable. You can also get them in different colors.

yjk1975 01-29-2010 01:37 PM

You may want new gloves.

letsride 01-29-2010 01:53 PM

I got new gloves.I went ahead and changed my throttle tube, now I dont have to spin it as much for it to go seems to work alot better.

mplpl 01-29-2010 08:16 PM

I have progrips but I use a wrap of baseball bat grip to shape and make them larger, I ride both bikes a lot and wanted my CBR grips to feel more like my cruiser grips - better feel and control for me -

letsride 01-29-2010 08:44 PM

I have very big hands, glove size xxl.I found my self twisting the throttle more and causing my numbness.I got what looks to be a 1/4 turn throttle and works better than stock.Slight turn and its gone.I guess if I got thicker grips would have helped as well.

Where did you get the 1/4 turn throttle tube I have looked for them and cannot find them. BTW I just got some harris grips and love them.

letsride 02-10-2010 01:00 AM

Ah the throttle grip, well hrc sells them for about $100.00 I bought a throttle tube for a yamaha r1 and paid only $10.00 for it and works great. All you have to do is replace the throttle tube and adjust your cables underneath your air box and done.

CBR300 02-10-2010 05:00 AM

I got some nice grips from ebay there Black and the have in white HONDA written on them.. How would u replace old grips with new 1s??

bubba_finch07 02-10-2010 07:22 AM

so r1 throttle tube is a quicker turn and its the right size? what year? will my honda grips fit it?

I use a small but long flat head screwdriver insert it in between throttle and grip to loosen the glue and then just twist it off.

yes it fits perfect in the housing,no cutting or any thing.Where the cables go on the tube is bigger so it stretches the cables and thus making it a quick turn throttle.Your honda grips will fit on it.The only thing that I did was cut the r1 tube on the end as it is about 1/4 inch longer.I used tubing cutter to make a really nice cut.
I believe all r1's tube are the same, but I got it for the earlier years,98-05

CBR300 02-10-2010 06:56 PM

Do u have to RE glue the NEW grips back ..

letsride 02-10-2010 07:37 PM

You dont have to but I would, grip glue costs only about 3 dls.

bubba_finch07 02-11-2010 10:17 AM

AWESOME consider it a mod done to my bike :)

letsride 02-11-2010 12:43 PM

Just remember that the first time you ride it.It will take off on you alot easier with very little movement.

bubba_finch07 02-12-2010 11:19 AM

lol thanks ordered parts yesterday, will go GREAT with new "cbr" harris silver/blk grip :D

CBR300 02-23-2010 03:02 PM

I installed my NEW grips today (since we been getting snow here I haven't been riding my bike) and there were a B to put on. MY hands are tender from all the twisting I had to do haha..they came out pretty nice. Good fit and good looking.. The stock ones came off easily and I don't think there was any glue @ all. I did not glue the new ones on because it was such a tight fit already. And plus I have bar ends that scew in to the handles. Another MOD done to tha F4i

You could have put water on it to act as a lube, then it would slide on with no problem.I always glue mine because in the summer when it's hot,the grip can spin on you and that can be annoying.

theskater101388 02-25-2010 01:15 PM

shootin compressed air into the grip also helps puttin the grips on easily i think

letsride 02-25-2010 01:19 PM

Compressed air, water, hairspray or grip glue will all work.

Cobra22nd 02-28-2010 12:00 PM

I just put mine on. Blue and black CBR grips. I just slapped them on with my palm. The only thing is, they leave a big gap between them and the new blue anodized RR bar ends. :( Doesn't look that bad, but one of the RRs is upside down.

letsride 02-28-2010 12:25 PM

upside rr well that sucks.I have the harris cbr grips, but will be ordering the driven d3 grips soon

Anyst8ofm1nd 03-01-2010 09:52 PM

RIZOMA LUX well worth the money, looks amazing and feels amazing as well

bubba_finch07 03-02-2010 07:01 AM

carolina29 03-29-2010 11:18 AM

you might research to see if they make a full size grip if you plan on running bar ends. :icon_wink:

bubba_finch07 04-03-2010 08:20 AM

just move it to the left some even out the gap.. thats what i did and it worked great. looks good too

Cobra22nd 04-03-2010 08:24 AM

nah. Then there's a gap on the other end. Makes the cramp buster useless though. I like to put it on the outside edge, and there is no extra room for it with these.

letsride 04-03-2010 10:22 AM

There are some bar ends that fit better, more flush.

Cobra22nd 04-03-2010 02:17 PM

yeah, but its the grips that are shorter. The bar ends worked fine when I tried them out with the pro grips that were on there. It's no big deal, I like the harris' better, and I sold the barely used progrips for enough to pay for the harris' and postage. :D

Maybe it is the material. IDK, but I like the way they feel better than the progrips.
