Default GP style exhaust

Was wondering if anyone knows if there are any other manufacturers that make this type of exhaust for the 954? This one is new from Micron, but I dont think they offer it for 954's.

Yes. I have a GP exhaust on my 954. It is a bit different than the r6. It basically consists of a Titanium exhaust system with a 60mm pipe and a GP cannister. Unfortunatly, it was very expensive. You must buy the whole exhaust system first and then the GP cannister. Total investment was $2200. However, the whole system weighs 7.2 lbs. It is the lightest system that can be found for the 954.

The full system the GP cannister manufacturer recommends is the ARATA. I got all of my stuff through www.citadelmotorsports.com . They are the only place that can get GP cannisters.

So I'm guessing that exhaust is a replica of the new shorties that many manufacturers are switching to. Are there any dyno numbers on the GP canister? I'd like to know if it was less restrictive because of the reduction in piping.

I was wondering what would happen if i just welded on a "gp style can onto my 954, would i mess anything up? or what if i just do a "slash cut" on the midpipe and remove the can?

I read that the if i did something like that, the bike would run to lean, and there wouldnt be enuff back pressure. Any truth to that? Do you think a power commander would solve that?

Any input would be great!

I'm looking into this too.
I think if you want a streetable system (not too loud) you will need to fit a pre-silencer under the engine (as seen on the Micron website --> GSXR600 road approved system).
The Micron looks like the best thing to use as the end can and fabricate the section between it and the headers. Of course you'd want to get your hands on a Micron and make sure you it is suitable before buying one.
Perhaps the hard part will be fabricating a bifurcation to replace the HTEV and getting it the right length/taper so as not to bugger the torque curve.
I would expect that a PCIII and a bit of dyno time will be needed to get it all running right.
Another possibly cheaper option would be to buy an '06 GSXR can off ebay instead of the Micron. You'd still need to fab the midpipe/pre-silencer.

I think the 954 is begging for this type of system.

Just removing the original can and 'slash cutting' the midpipe would probably result in a bike sooo loud that either the highway patrol would defect the bike real quick.... or your neighbours would end up shooting you.

I'm thinking of doing the same. I don't care how loud it is. I want it to scare the dead! With a power commander, would just cutting the mid-pipe be a viable option? I understand that it would basically be a straight pipe from the header in this case, but I think it would sound sooooooo good! Ever heard Ghostriders GSX-R 1000? Very gnarley! These bikes should sound like race bikes!(in my most humble opinion) I just don't want to go through all the work if it is a mod that will end up costing me power, or hurt the engine. Any input would be most appreciated. Cheers
