Gas Cap off?
I'm taking some parts off my bike for paint, and one of them is the gas cap. Couple questions:
[ol][*]Will leaving it off for a couple days damage anything as far as fuel quality/air pressure/etc?[*]How long can I leave it off without causing any harm?[*]What do you suggest covering it with? [/ol]
I didn't know if it would do anything other than the gas evaporating more quickly because of air contact/less pressure? I'm planning on sealing it up tight with plastic and duct tape.
Thoughts?

You're definitely going to have gas evaporate as soon as you have the tank open, so my advice is to ride it till it's almost empty or drain it if you can... also, you can just put some plastic over the tank and use painters tape to go all around the opening and try to get it as air tight as possible to keep it as sealed... that'll keep anything from falling in or getting any dirt or dust in the tank... that could be aweful for the engine
That's what I did immediately. I didn't want any debri or dust gathering up or getting into the tank. I cut a sheet of plastic to overlap the hole, then duct-taped the crap out of it sealing it down and filling the whole cap recession. On top of that, I keep that covered with a moto cover at all times.
Is that my only worry then? Debris and losing money on gas because of evap?
