The reason I am asking about a slip-on is because I don't think I can afford a full exhaust. Does anyone know the site with the sound clips?

 

Unless you are doing serious track days a full exhaust is not worth the coin IMHO. Why? Because if all you do is ride on the street it is not worth it. Also, to get the most from a full exhaust you will need a Power Commander which adds about250 or so to the overall coast. Slip ons do not need a PowerCommander or remapping. Seriously, a stock 954 can hit serious speeds and is capable if getting you in all sorts of trouble.Certainly getting rid of that big, ugly stock exhaust is something most people do. As far as sound, that is personal preference and how much you have to spend. Personally I think that Arkapvoic and Leo Vince look the best and sound great. Check out Ebay for some good deals.
