OK i am only taking an educated guess here, but the cali has an o2 sensor. The ecm has to account for this so they have to be different. Parts lists 2 different ones, that has to be why.

your right. the O2 sensor and the evap cansiter are the differences. I would TAKE A GUESS and say that the ecu will work for both no matter what. just...... if you put a regualr ecu in a Cali bike you will have to unplug the sensor from the O2 sensor from the main harness or it will bittch at you and if there is any kinda electrical connection to the evap cansiter then unplug that. otherwise everything else is the same, but.... you also risk the chance of it running like **** cuz of the o2 sensor being unplugged. I know in cars they make a big difference, i dont know what it would do on that.

also to edit my above responce. It might not run at all without the O2 sensor plugged in because of the way it is wired into the harness. that just came to mind. so....on second thought i dont know if i can offer a helpful resonce. sorry man.
