Check out here for calculated top speeds/vs gearing/sprockets...
Gearing Commander: Motorcycle Speed, RPM, Chain & Sprockets Calculator

Interesting site, don't remember who linked it last, but it makes the rounds here. ;-)

Cool

Mine maxxed out at 178ish redline in 6th gear; I only looked down for a second, and thats what it read. I will never do that again; that was foolish of me, and I do not promote that behavior, if I popped a tire or something going that fast, I would have flown for hundreds of yard, and never lived to tell about it. Redlining(I dont know how to spell that) in 1st gear will cause horrible gas mileage, but more importantly, it may damage the 954 because you are putting unneeded stress on the motor. Enjoy yourself, but I dont want to hear you ruined your engine because you never took it out of 1st gear. Every year passes it gets a little harder to find parts for this bike because it was only made for 2 years; get a gixxer 600 and ruin that engine, youll never run out of parts.

I don't make a habit of red lining first gear, just that once, well, maybe twice. Was just curious. This bike is stupid fast, as everyone here knows, I doubt I keep it. I've had a broken back and the riding position isn't conducive to enjoyment. I'll ride it awhile, then sell or trade it off.
Peace.

32K on my Girl! I bounce the needle every chance I get.....Thats Why God Invented Rev Limiters! Wring it out. My Riding/Track group contains some very exotic and expensive machines. Duc. 1098/1198, Rsv's, S1000, Bimota.....There is always something letting go, breaking, leaking, etc with those New and Improved Machines. My 954 is and has always been turnkey. Fire her up, let it come to temp.....and Ride! It has never broke down and has always brought me home. Its a Testament to this model and its powerplant!

I've bounced mine off the rev limiter by accident a few times. And even though I know it's there to keep any damage from happening, I still cringed when I did it lol. Its def not something I make a habit of. I topped her out at 182 in 6th one day while walking down a busa but I wasn't quite at redline. Definetly something I won't be doing again but atleast I can say what she has in her lol.

I'm a newer rider so don't have the skills/confidence to really ring out my 954RR at this point, but I've attempted to redline my bike in 2nd and 3rd gear a couple of times. Wow, talk about a rush! It's hard for me to pay attention to the speeds while I'm doing that since I'm using all of my available concentration for the road, and the thought of looking down while redlining 6th is definitely a foreign concept to me! My 954RR never ceases to amaze me though.

Indicated top speeds are usually off by 6-10% on the high side. An indicated 175 mph is probably less than 160 mph in reality. Install something like a SpeedoHealer if you want to correct for the intentional factory speedo error.

. . . my sentiments exactly. That's why I picked up a low mileage stock 954. (I tried to keep it stock and original. I just couldn't resist to throw on bolt-on mods.) She's a cheap date.:

My beautiful exotic Italian mistress (a heavily mod'd 2002 998, sold) was a high maintenance girl . . . so beautiful to look at but demanded attention:
