i was thinking about putting engine ice in my 954---how do i go about draining it out??????do i pull the little bolt on the water pump to drain???if so, where do i add the new coolant at---the manual says to only fill the puke tank---do i add the coolant then start it to suck it down and keep doing that or what the hell????can someone give me the process of doing this----bike only has 7500 mi's on it but iv'e had it since may of 02-----the coolantl looks great but i want the advantages the engine ice gives....help is greatly appreciated,,,thank you---
I did this with my 929.
On the water pump there is a bolt that has a washer. That is the one u want to pull. Making sure that you have the radiator cap off, let it drain completely(you may have to have the right side fairings off,in order, to get the cap off). You can squeeze the radiator hose a bit too in order to release the fluid faster.
While the radiator is draining, you can start emptying the overflow tank(hose on bottom). Once all fluid is drained put that bolt back in. Now, Honda recommends that you replace the washer with a new one. Weather or not this is imperative or not, I don't know. I know that I did.
Then fill up the radiator a bit, enough so when you turn on the engine it won't overheat. Turn on the engine and keep adding fluid slowly. Keep in mind when the thermostat opens up it may spit some out at you, so, be careful not to be standing right over the radiator. Once the thermostat opens you can now top off the radiator to specs. Let the motor keep running until you have added some in the overflow tank to the recommended rate. Now, cap the radiator off and clean up any mess or oversplash.
If you were to drain all fluid out of the radiator and overflow tank and start refilling the overflow tank first with the motor on, the bike will overheat and may cause damage. I hope this helps. You can always call a Honda service tech. and they should gladly help you.
