Default Clutch slipping help!!!!

Ok in first gear everything seems to be fine and when I hit second its good right until I hit throttle hard then the motor seems to rev like I'm holding in the clutch a little bit! ( I'm not holding clutch in) this also happens in third gear, what could this be? I've checked the free play on clutch lever and it is good, is this possibly my clutch plates? Any input is helpful

It's usually just a worn clutch cable, lubing it might help but if it’s that warn it'll probably break soon.

if the cable is not hanging up, then the clutch is slipping. it could be worn out. it is a wet clutch, so the right oil is important. what oil are you using?

i would think the honda dealer would put the correct oil in it, if they even serviced it. dont assume that, change it anyway. the wrong oil can cause slipping. i use rotella t6 synth, but you can use any motorcycle oil with the spec JASO-MA, for wet clutches. in general, stay away from car oil. there are so many oil threads here, take some time reading. everyone has their favorite, for their own reasons.

did the dealer offer any warranty for the used bike?

Sorry man I should of said something more along the lines of "check your clutch cable".

Is the clutch lever heavy or light?

Lever seems normal, guess it could be a little on the heavy side, but free play is good so I'm at a loss IDK! I order a cable and new plates to try and start from scratch cause bike was bought usedj! Guess I gotta get my feet wet mechanically somewhere why not start here

check to see if there is any free play at the transmission side. disconnect the cable and see if it slides freely. if you have a bad cable, replace it and see if your problem still exists. if the cable feels good, proceed further into the clutch.

you have no record of what oil is in there or when it was changed. dont assume the dealer did anything to it before the sold it to you. the previous owner may have used car oil in it. that will wreck a clutch. change the oil, brake fluid, coolant, air filter, spark plugs, fuel filter (in the tank), lube and adjust the chain, and check all the bolts you can get to. that way you know that everything is safe and when it was serviced.
