Cam Shaft
I took my bike into the dealer yesterday for kncoking noises and well come to find out the person i purchased the bike from got the honda protection plan!!!! Good for me b/c they are saying its the cam shaft tensioner but i have no clue to me it sounds a little more than that but i will soon find out! i know the dealer said it was around $300 just for labor and $70 for parts so who knows........but not a penny out of my pocket!!!
MAnual cam CHAIN tensioner is about $60.00 from American Performance Engineering, & the install is real simple. Either the dealer is BS-in you, or he is looking to charge through the extended warranty through the a$$. Either way, not a big deal for you, but all of the automatic cam chain tensioners eventually start to loosen off & rattle. Manual CCT is the way to go.
Well they got the part in today and i wen tto make sure they were working on it, the guy had it on the "lift" but they said he went to lunch and was only working on it for an hour....how long does this actually take to do, b/c that was at 2 today and i figured i would have had it today.....i hope they hurry up im having with draws from it!!!!! now that the weather is actually nice where i live...been in the 40's when i couldnt ride it, now its in the mid 70's now i want my darn bike back
Is it a ticking noise like around the tank area? how many miles are on your bike? I have an 03 with 9500 miles ticking is bad a friend said it was the cam chain tensioner....i bought it to a dealership near by and the tech said there is nothing abnormal with the bike...he said bikes with that mileage make noises like that? I also had a friend with a 00 929 same ticking noise around 9000 miles. let me know if the tensioner takes the tick away..
I'm curious on how this turns out too. I just got my bike (02 954) and with 7500 miles on it, its making the ticking noise that you guys are describing. Sooner or later I was planning on taking it in to get looked at.
Let me know!
Let me know!
I noticed in my 929 a slight tapping as metal knocking in wood until it warm up.
I'm hearing this noise in another 929 (same miles) but not in other two 929.
About the ticking coming around exhaust pipes i noticed it with variable intensity in almost all 929-954 with 15000 miles or more.
Awful sounding motorbike!

Yes it has to do with thermal expansion for sure but it don't sound normal.
A tap tap clack clak like piston slap around wall or rod bearing reciprocating noise, mainly on the left side
that disappear until temperature reach 80-90 degree (celsius) only in cold start.
I heard this noise in other 929 but not all and this make me [:@]
