Battery or stator issue.
So I just bought an 02 954 from a buddy. Rode it about 30 minutes from his house. Stopped to get gas and it wouldn't start. Got a friend to jump start me. Rode to the nearby walmart to meet some friends. Again, bike wouldn't start. I bumped it and rode it not even 30 seconds and it shut itself off. Tried bumping it again and no luck. Jumped it and it would only stay running if I was slightly in the throttle. Makes a clicking noise like it's a bad battery but I'm not sure if it's the battery, stator, or the R/R. Help please.
Time to get out the old voltmeter and take some readings. Without knowing what the voltage is doing, I would guess that it's not charging. In that case, I would replace the regulator and the stator as a set then see if the battery survived the discharge. But, if the battery is old or has been sitting for a long period of time, replacing it would not be a bad idea.

First check is at the battery, then at the battery running.
There is a continuity check on the stator you can do too, but as I said before, replace them both if it's not charging. The one that didn't fail is surely doomed to fail in the near future and has a good chance of taking out the new part with it.

The date on the battery is 4/19. I tested the voltage with the bike running and it was consistantly pulling 11.5-11.9 volts.
Didnt get it that high. I'll check it tomorrow. Before I went home it was struggling to start so I'm assuming it's the stator and not the battery. I have a stator coming in tomorrow.
