Default About to buy a 954..... urgent help please.

Hi Guys,

Well my Honda CBF600N has been sold and will be leaving me in about 11 hours, my dilema is.... i am going to see a 2002 954 with 23,000 miles in about 13 hours !! But i can not be certain yet that it has had it's 15,000 miles valve service, if i can not be sure would you guys buy it, oh the price is very good at £2,200 which for you guys over the pond ........ god knows how many $ that is !

The seller also says there is another set of fairings thrown in he then explained its not a track day bike but had a fall off the paddock stand when the previous owner had it and he simply replaced the fairings all round with '' after market '' ..... now i guess these will not be Honda, and he says there is a slight colour difference..... just how good are these after market panels ? It does look a nice bike on the pics, and the price is very good..... what do you think ?

they're okay, i've built a bike with the aftermarket fairings, they're not as good as OEM, but the fit and finish is more than acceptable.

as far as the valve service.... they just check them at 16k. mine weren't out of spec then. they are a little out right now at 22k. i'm .002 out on a few valves last time i checked, so i "need" them done... but i'm not too worried about it right now. service limit is .001 out - but like i said, there's still plenty of clearence (because they tend to tighten up)- i'm not too worried about it. in a few months when i brake the bike down for something i'll get to it.

i'd still buy it.... that's like $3500 - that's a pretty fair price IMHO. especially if you can do everything on your own....

My 2003 with 30k has not needed the Valves serviced. Mechanic states they are within spec and doing fine. Dont let that be a deal breaker for you. Good luck!

Just what i wanted to hear....... 3 hours to go, i have wanted a 954 for a long time and it will be my first sports bike after 5 years with the '' sit up and beg'' CBF600N, At that price even if i find i don't take to sportsbikes.... i could sell it at either very little or no loss. Thanks for the prompt repsonses, and if i do buy it then i will post pics.
