It was working fine and then this happened ?

I'd look into the wiring, something is not grounded properly or 2 wires could be crossed up.... I only say that because i had that happen, turn the key and NOTHING would happen. Turned out i had 2 wires worn through under the seat coming out of the ECM.

If you haven't checked fuses yet, that's step #1. After that, yeah, probably wiring...

I have checked all of the fuses.... all were ok. Let me throw this out too I can jump start it but if you take off the negative wire on the Jumper cables it cuts off. If you leave it on for about 5-10 minutes it will run for about a hout or so. I just put the battery back in and the iginition is working this time...but I do agree with the wiring post...Is there a way I can check the grounding?

What up dvejones and welcome to the forum. But check it, you say it will run for a hour? after that what does it do? does it die? if it does and your battery is good then either your stator or regulator is goin bad or are bad. You could also have had a bad ground to the battery when you say you werent gettin any power before. Hoep this helps a lil' if you got more questions do ask, alot of experience here on the forum.

Are you certain the battery is good? Has it been load tested?

Jumping the bike and having it die once the power source is disconnected tells me that you don't have adequate battery power and the battery is unable to store sufficient charge.
Do you have anyother bikes in your garage so you can swap batteries?

If you are able to start the bike by jumping directly at the battery posts then the problem should be the battery. I say this because if you had a wiring issue the bike would have the same problem irregardless of the power source. But since you are getting a positive result by adding power then I'm thinking battery. Also, once you get the bike to start and have the jumpercables removed, use a volt meter to see how much power is goingback to the battery. This will tell you how well your charging system is functioning.

There could be multiple issues. But I suggest you start at your power source.

sounds like you have a bad battery if it can run but will shut off. it is not able to hold a charge. why it wont start without a jumper is a wiring default somewhere in your system. follow your leads from your battery and start there. check your grounds and connections with your power source and go from there.

TRY TO PUSH START YOUR BIKE, RIDE IT FOR 10 MINUTES, STOP THE BIKE, SHUT OFF ENGINE AND RESTART WITH IGNITION BUTTON. IF IT STARTS UPTHEN YOUR WIRING IS OK AND THAT U NEED A NEW BATTERY. IF NOT, I WOULD SUGGEST SEND IT IN THE SHOP FOR DIAGNOSE.

i dont knowguys the battery thing makes scince and is a good place to start butfrom my understanding if you have a bad battery it will still run.....your bike really only needs the battery to start....after the motor is running it uses -volts from the battery that allows it to recharge while running.....so i would have to say that this is a charging problem...bc if he pulls the power cables off of the battery and the engine shuts down then i would have to say that the motor is running off of the battery and then it would die pretty quick after disconnect...
