2012 cbr1000rr?

The new Anniv. Edition is sick. But here is my question. Go and do your homework. Check out the Specs on the new Blade. Compare them to your Old and dated 954RR. Would you choose the 2012 over your 954?

for what? mostly street? how aggressive are you riding on the back roads / track days?

the '12 is WAY better. be honest. it has 10 years on our bikes tech wise. if you are at the peak with your 954 - sell it and get the new one

if you're a mostly street rider, and you like to get on it on the backroads - i'd keep it. fastbikes mag had a comparison between all the blades (from '92 to present) and they said the 954 was the ultimate blade and still the BEST one for the blend of lightweight, comfort, power, handling.

i know a guy that had a 954 and got a newer gixxer thou - and he kind of regrets getting rid of his fiddyfour.

its up to you. if you like comfort, and a solid bike - stick with the 954. if you want the best technology, and want to go the fastest - get the '12.

2012 - more power, better throttle response, better fueling, newer suspension, way less comfort.

2003 - lightweight, comfortable, plenty of power for the streets, it can do anything you need it to, you can carry stuff in the trunk.

and i'm sure with all the money you've put into yours, its a better ride than the new bike still riding wise. stock bikes suck....

14k for a bike with no trunk i love my 29 how ever the new cbr is very nice if i was rich id get one for now my garage looks like fred sanfords house 1 954 parts bike 1 gsxr 1100 project bike and a decent 929

Looking at both bikes head to head specifications wise, I don't see much difference between the two. HP figures are very close, wheel base, dimensions are almost exactly the same, etc. Yes, the 1000 is newer and has the edge technology wise, but the main difference I see is in the suspension. I can't see paying 14k for what essentially a suspension upgrade and newer looks when I can upgrade the 954 suspension at a fraction of the price. The 954 is still lighter wet than the new 1000 and almost the same hp. I would have to see HUGE performance differences in order to part ways with my 954, ie: the 2012 ZX-10's or BMW 1000's. As for me, I'm keeping my 954.

$14k for upgraded suspension with No Trunk.....I love the Comparo's! My 954 isnt going anywhere. Im just amazed at how a 10+yr old machine can still hold its own with most Modern machines. Pure HP doesnt get it for me. Its a mixture of weight, ergos, handling and how the HP blends with it. With every new Model year.....I love my 954 that much more!

PS. It amazes me Honda didnt put selectable maps on it......

well, the ergos will never get as comfy on a sportbike again like the 954.... that's for sure.

Dazed 02-06-2012 04:28 PM

Keep the 954! Can we see some pictures of yours?

the new one? they say it doesn't need it.... that's how smooth the fueling is. dual stage injection. ride by wire. etc.

and i have a set of TBs from a '09 1000rr - and they are space aged compared to the 954's.... soon they'll be on my 954 ... errr... i mean 980....

Ironhead,I'm going to go out on a limb and say stick with the 954 or buy another liter bike. The Honda is great but not as advanced as the others. They say it doesn't need this or that. Thing is the other bikes got it regardless if they did or didn't. I love my 954. Although if I was to buy a new bike as of right now??? It would be a new R1. Yamaha just really did a great job with the bike as a whole. Second would be the new ZX10. But I'm not counting Honda out. Maybe wait to see what may come in another year.
