2012 cbr1000rr?

The new Anniv. Edition is sick. But here is my question. Go and do your homework. Check out the Specs on the new Blade. Compare them to your Old and dated 954RR. Would you choose the 2012 over your 954?

Conrice 02-04-2012 07:32 AM

for what? mostly street? how aggressive are you riding on the back roads / track days?

the '12 is WAY better. be honest. it has 10 years on our bikes tech wise. if you are at the peak with your 954 - sell it and get the new one

if you're a mostly street rider, and you like to get on it on the backroads - i'd keep it. fastbikes mag had a comparison between all the blades (from '92 to present) and they said the 954 was the ultimate blade and still the BEST one for the blend of lightweight, comfort, power, handling.

i know a guy that had a 954 and got a newer gixxer thou - and he kind of regrets getting rid of his fiddyfour.

its up to you. if you like comfort, and a solid bike - stick with the 954. if you want the best technology, and want to go the fastest - get the '12.

2012 - more power, better throttle response, better fueling, newer suspension, way less comfort.

2003 - lightweight, comfortable, plenty of power for the streets, it can do anything you need it to, you can carry stuff in the trunk.

and i'm sure with all the money you've put into yours, its a better ride than the new bike still riding wise. stock bikes suck....

stealthCBR929 02-05-2012 11:41 PM

14k for a bike with no trunk i love my 29 how ever the new cbr is very nice if i was rich id get one for now my garage looks like fred sanfords house 1 954 parts bike 1 gsxr 1100 project bike and a decent 929

ajzcamaro 02-06-2012 10:36 AM

Looking at both bikes head to head specifications wise, I don't see much difference between the two. HP figures are very close, wheel base, dimensions are almost exactly the same, etc. Yes, the 1000 is newer and has the edge technology wise, but the main difference I see is in the suspension. I can't see paying 14k for what essentially a suspension upgrade and newer looks when I can upgrade the 954 suspension at a fraction of the price. The 954 is still lighter wet than the new 1000 and almost the same hp. I would have to see HUGE performance differences in order to part ways with my 954, ie: the 2012 ZX-10's or BMW 1000's. As for me, I'm keeping my 954.

Ironhead 02-06-2012 01:37 PM

$14k for upgraded suspension with No Trunk.....I love the Comparo's! My 954 isnt going anywhere. Im just amazed at how a 10+yr old machine can still hold its own with most Modern machines. Pure HP doesnt get it for me. Its a mixture of weight, ergos, handling and how the HP blends with it. With every new Model year.....I love my 954 that much more!

PS. It amazes me Honda didnt put selectable maps on it......

Conrice 02-06-2012 03:34 PM

well, the ergos will never get as comfy on a sportbike again like the 954.... that's for sure.

Dazed 02-06-2012 04:28 PM

Keep the 954! Can we see some pictures of yours?

the new one? they say it doesn't need it.... that's how smooth the fueling is. dual stage injection. ride by wire. etc.

and i have a set of TBs from a '09 1000rr - and they are space aged compared to the 954's.... soon they'll be on my 954 ... errr... i mean 980....

Ironhead,I'm going to go out on a limb and say stick with the 954 or buy another liter bike. The Honda is great but not as advanced as the others. They say it doesn't need this or that. Thing is the other bikes got it regardless if they did or didn't. I love my 954. Although if I was to buy a new bike as of right now??? It would be a new R1. Yamaha just really did a great job with the bike as a whole. Second would be the new ZX10. But I'm not counting Honda out. Maybe wait to see what may come in another year.

Dazed 02-07-2012 08:44 PM

that's a nice looking bike Ironhead

Ironhead 02-08-2012 10:32 AM

Not thinking about getting rid of the old 954....She will go with me to the grave! A Panigale or Ape V4 may need to sit next to her in the stable though......

BadS1 02-08-2012 10:54 AM

Well the Aprillia is a nice bike but they really don't have great customer service here in the states. You'll play the waiting game on parts at times. The Duc..... I haven't heard the price. I think its one sexy bike. I hope to see one at the Chicago IMS this Friday.

BadS1 02-08-2012 10:57 AM

Sit back and wait a year. Erik Buell should have the 1190RS in due time in the Ducati price range.

Conrice 02-08-2012 01:21 PM

panigale all the way.

dude.... no way that'll be in the price range... isn't going to be over $40,000? and i still don't think it'll be AS good as the duc. nowhere near as sexy looking either.

BadS1 02-08-2012 01:36 PM

Yeah it is at 40 grand right now. They are looking into the future right now to have more of somewhat massed production model. Is it as good as the Pingale??? Nobody can say that is for sure. The EBR is 370 lbs. dry. In race trim its 370 wet this year. Wanna have race trim?? Just get rid of the extra exhaust can, turnsignals, rear fender, headlight and any street legal pieces. Pretty much this bike is what a Pingale costs in the R model but more in some ways.

Ironhead 02-08-2012 02:00 PM

The free Starbucks card with every Panigale purchase is going to seal the deal 4 me though.......

BadS1 02-09-2012 12:08 PM

LOL I didn't think he was serious either but ain't it funny that Buell actually sell's coffee??? I'm gonna have to stop in say hello to Erik and get a bag of beans. His band has played in my Bar a few times. Yeah Yeah I'm a Buell fan as well.

Ironhead 02-09-2012 01:09 PM

Ok....we need some better weather. I was not serious. Im here in the Great NorthWest. (Oregon) There are more Starbucks on every corner than Hookers! (Im trying to fix that btw...) We have several Large Ducati dealers here. Going to buy a Bike there is very similar to a "Spa" day......Lots of Dudes strutting around in freshly drycleaned 1pc suits if you catch my drift. It is also not uncommon to see a gaggle of Monsters, 10/1198's nicley lined up in front of a starbucks. I quick walkthrough and Odometer check shows many of them with less than 100 miles.....Thats alot of trips from the Paddock-Starbucks and Back! : ) I prefer the smell of race fuel and bits and pieces of my race tire stuck to my butt cheeks. Unfortunately.......neither of those are on the Starbucks menu........

but you do have a lot of rain the spring and a winter... so...

BadS1 02-09-2012 03:30 PM

I hear ya Ironhead. I have HD's...... everywhere but I guess thats cause I live 25 minutes from there factory. So I have thousands of guys that are playin the roll like the Movie Wild Hogs. Dentist by day and rough tough biker by weekend.lol

Ironhead 02-09-2012 03:40 PM

Im North of Grants Pass in Salem. There are tons of fun roads to explore from our coastal range to 101 (Pacific Coast Hwy) across the whole State! Biggest Problem is our Boys in Blue (Oregon State troopers) and Elk.......Those 2 always seem to get in the way when you least expect it.....Motards were Invented for our Winter and Spring seasons!

At $28k before ttl for the Tricolore, why not buy 2 1000rr's? :p

Conrice 02-11-2012 10:02 PM

going back to the original subject matter

As good as the revised $13,800 CBR1000RR (add $1000 for C-ABS) looks to be, here’s hoping that the near future brings more than just a brighter shift indicator.

last sentence from cycle world's first ride review

BadS1 02-12-2012 04:52 PM

Ok....went to the Chicago IMS show. The CBR paint is just awesome. Thats all I can say for it. I sat on the pingale. Very narrow bike and I like it but the exhaust was kinda set up very busy and personally didn't like it. I've sat on the EBR before its ok. But ya know what?? The bike that is really narrow and for some reason with my 6ft 2inch height. The KTM 1190 was my favorite of the bunch. I just loved how it felt and now I just need to ride one.

i absolutely love that bike

i'd own one....

....if it had a different headlight

moosestang 02-12-2012 08:14 PM

I haven't really looked at the 2012 cbr, but I love the ktm 1190. I also love the Panigale, which is 17k base price, no need to pay 28k.

Having a 1125cr and cbr954, I'd choose the ktm or Panigale over any new I4. V-twins are just way better street bikes.

It is uglier than sin, but actually works well at night! You can ride at a good pace with great visibility.
