Default 02 954 vs 05 600rr?

OK, I have an 05 600rr. SUPER clean bike. Nothng wrong with it, except for the fact the seats both hurt my wife's and my butts!!! I have recently had an offer to trade to an 02 954rr. I thought I would post it in this section to get you guys' feel about this! ANY input would be GREATLY appreciated!!!!!!! Oh, the seats aren't our only complaint, (if you want to call it a complaint!)! I am about 6' tall and weigh around 215. Alot of my buddies ride 600's, and when we all take off, of course they leave me a little. But, THE SECOND that my wife gets on with me (even though she wieghs 120 SOAKING WET), WE'RE DONE!!! We can't even keep up with the group unless we are on the highway, and then we have to run up at LEAST 20 mph more than they are doing to get to them. She LOVES going fast, I mean, most of the time, faster than I would like to go with her on the back. But, she loves it, so, we've seen around 147 indicated trying to catch up to the group. That being said, we do have a hard time keeping up! Even just getting on the highway. That's our reasons for stepping up. I was originally thinkin of any larger bike 00 or newer, but I'm just not sure about the 954. Comfort/Power, etc. Thanks again for reading my super long post and giving me some feedback!!!!!

147 riding 2-up? oohh... probably not the best idea. be careful bro.

anyway, that's a tough choice. the 954 is GREAT bike in its own right... and will definitely have a noticable power difference over the 600RR. most of the guys i know who rides 2-up on a regular basis have liter bikes for that extra "ooomph!" you can't go wrong with either. but i think you'd be better off with the 954 for your riding needs... plus it's more comfy the the 600RRs

Well.........face the facts man, two up riding isnt the place to keep up with your buddies. The 954 seat sucks every bit as bad as you think. Yeah, it has more power, but do you really want to be responsible for someone elses life as a passenger just so you can keep up? It WILL wheelie like nobodies business with a passenger on back. Think about it before you get on the throttle just to keep up.

In April of 03' I had a 2003 F4i and my wife and I rode 900 miles from Los Angeles to Yosemite for a 3 day trip. I too did not care for the lack of acceleration and overall lack of power. It was a great trip in spite of this and looking back I still have fond memories.

But, in July 03 I bought a 954 RR. What a difference. With her on the back acceleration, speed and handling was markedly superior. We went from LA to Morro Bay to Hearst Castle up CA1 to SF to Napa Valley back to San Jose and finally home to LA. 1200 miles in 4 days.

Buying the 954 was the best thing I could have done to improve handling and safety. We ride 2 up all the time. And acceleration with all that torque is great.

And the seat comfort issue is a non-issue. Who gives a ****. It's a motorcycle. She never mentioned even one time about the discomfort of riding that many miles on two different bikes. But then she is one tough Bitch! ;-)

Bottom line: Snag the 954.

Thanks for the info. To everyone though, listen, riding 2-up at 200mph isn't out of the question for us. I KNOW I'm responsible for mine AND my WIFE'S lives. But, like I said, it's NOT just to keep up, we've went almost that fast ON OUR OWN! She LOVES the speed! So do I, I've topped my 600rr out, (well, close enough anyways, as it would've taken miles to get faster from the speed I was at). But, in all fairness, I want to hear EVERYONE'S input on the swap idea. I mean, it's NOT just for being able to keep up, or go as fast as everyone. It's like YEAHRYT said, these 600's are GREAT, but LAG DOWN something HUGE with 2 people. I know my wieght doesn't help, but I'm not really, FAT, I have a decent amount of muscle as well, so I'm not really going to LOSE that! We just want to step up and this seems to be a good deal. However, if anyone knows of any OTHER liter bikes, that are a LITTLE older that would trade straight up, or something close to it.....let me know. Thanks again everyone, keep up the advice!!!!!
Oh, and does the rear seat on the 954 feel pretty much IDENTICLE to the 600rr's????

Wow, thanks for the info! Ya, the corbin looks to be a cool thing, but for the rider only. On the 600rr, the Corbin rear seat, is HUGE!!!! Plus, like I said, it's the whole, BOGGING down thing that sucks!!!

I was told the 600s are "buzzy" which is a comfort issue and that a 929 or 954 wouls be more forgiving of being in the wrong gear through a turn. The idea being that on the bigger bike you can power through the turn. Do you guys buy this. Also what merits might a 954 or 929 have over one another?

Like everyone else said get the 954. Again don't get it for the comfortable seat as it has none, you do get use to it thought.
And as long as it's been taken care of thats the most important thing. I have had a few diff. bikes and the 954 is def. the best so far.
It has plenty of power, when you get on the throttle you'de better be hanging on as it will pull hard... Oh yeah if you have insurance on you're bike it will prob. go up a bit so check that out first.....

Two up the 954 is amazing, hardly notices there is an extra on board. The seat is rather hard but that is small upgrade compared to making a 600 comfy and fast enough two up. As long as the value is there to you on the trade then the bike will amaze you and make you very very happy.
