Default Is it worth it. Come guys don't leave me hanging.

I found a mint condition 2001 929 with a blown engine for $2900 on craigslist. I'm just getting into working on bikes but have experience on cars. How easy is it to swap engines or should I just rebuild the engine and what other engine with more power will fit if any?

Th 929 is top notch but $3k and with a blown engine? I wouldn't touch it. Th seller needs to lower th price significantly. He has to take into consideration th fact that u have to replace th engine. So unless u have another 929 or 954 engine lined up for th swap, I would suggest u take ur $3k an buy a bike that's running. Good luck.

$2900 with blown engine. Uhhhhh... not worth it to me. I paid $5500 for mine in 2001 and it had 8k miles on it(plus I got some gear and bike had exhaust).

I am with Crazie929, take the $3000 and purchase a running motorcycle.

To not leave you hanging, you can search the forum and see how people have put 954 engines in a 929. That is a possibility that is fairly easy (if you know how to do that stuff) from what I have read. Anything outside of the 54's engine, I have no idea or have never heard of.

Id offer $1500 max. Still going to be a pain in your rear end though, unless you like projects like that. Im with everyone else, spend $3000 on a bike you hit the roads on.

I swapped the engine in my 900rr in a small dim shop with minimal tools in about 6-8 hours. If I had the resources now it would be a cake walk. You could purchase a motor for probably around $900.00 on ebay and I would just go ahead and get a 954 with ecu and call it good. But I would factor in the cost to fix it with the price you offer the guy. I just picked up a mint 929 with 5,000 miles for $2,900 so you should pay less than $2,000.

There are better deals to be had for sure. I paid less than 3k for my Erion with 10k miles. Unless u WANT to be bothered with the engine swap, I wouldn't pay more than $1200.
