Default Ticking or vibrating noise?

I just picked up a 929 tonight and on the way home I began to notice a ticking or vibrating noise around 5k rpm. When I got home, I noticed a lighter ticking when it was just sitting there idling. I did a search and others say that it isn't something to worry about, but I don't want it to be the cam chain tensioner or anything very costly. The bike just turned 5000 miles if that matters at all. Any help would be appreciated a ton! Thanx.

most likely it is the exhaust valve, there are known to make all sorts of racket..and you might hear ticking from the engine cooling down after you turn it off

a cam chain tensioner isnt to expensive. you can get an ape manual cct around $50-60.

Thanx for the quick replies guys. I know my Gixxer used to make a light ticking, but it wasn't as loud as this one seems to be. I tried to listen close to the sound and it was most evident when I was up by the exhaust so hopefully it's just the valves.

I've heard that the ape manual cct is a worthy upgrade. How hard are they to install? I'd say I'm moderately able, but by no means a good mechanic. I think a manual would help me get familiar with my bike. Anybody have a quick link to download a manual till I have time to purchase a Clymers or something similar?

my 00 929 makes a ticking around 5rpm as well. I looked into it and it seems to be HTEV.(exhaust valve located after header)

HI cshogo i replaced my cct not long back and its not to hard its more fiddley you need to remove the tank and air box. The cct is under the tank on the right hand side and it is held in by two 8mm bolts and you need to remove them turn for turn to bring it out square but one of the bolts is up tight to the frame, i had to cut a spanner in half, so it take a bit of time but it not hard. Hope that helps ya buddie.

I have the same noise. The dealer said it was the cam chain tensioner. It bothers me, but they said not to worry about replacing it.
