super streetbike, 929
SSPstang, i hope you dont take what i said as an insult, because i love your bike, i was more upset at the comparison and that their was alot mods that could have been made to boost the 929 hp numbers and still end up with a better looking bike in the end.
now with the article did they actually dyno both bike on the same dyno to get that the 1000rr was about 25 more hp up on the 929 or was that just an assumption as stated by honda?
now you say your 929 is putting down 148 to the wheel, then does that mean that the 1000rr is putting down 173?

Bignibb, oh no worries man, I didn't take your post as bad. I just thought I'd chime in with my mods. As for the bikes, honestly, where I understand a normal comparo can take upwards of a week; this one was barely a day. It was super last minute that they stumbled upon my bike and then decided to compare it.
Long story short, there were no dyno runs. However, my butt-dyno (which isn't accurate at all, I understand) told me that in the midrange the 1000 had an advantage over my 929. Go figure though, it's a larger motor. However, even with my mild re-gear and the mods it wasn't THAT big of a difference. Where the two were closer was on the top-end, they felt damn close and the few roll-ons we did from 2-4 had us damn close too. In the end the new 1000 is a better performer, but considering what they're selling for, the two bikes were close enough where if you couldn’t afford to mod a new 1000, IMO, why not buy a modified 929? Now, had those roll-ons been up to 150 or so then I'm sure there would have been more of an advantage on the 1000's side.
All-in-all it was a cool compare and I was stoked I got a chance to ride the new 1000—it’s a great bike. In a street compare like we did it was a lot closer than you might think. I mean we’re talking side-by-side or within a few bikes at times. A track and all-out performance test would have favored the larger and newer machinego figure lol. If anything, I was happy to get a 929 on the cover, I can’t remember the last time an ol' 929 graced one.
Happy New Years

thats a great write up on the bike and gotta say thanks cause the SSB November issue was what prompted me to go out and buy the 929 over a few others.. now I just have to wait for weather to get nicer here in Ohio !!!
i cant say for sure but i believe the guy on the 929 is actually the editor of the mag i recognize his helmet cuz they did a write up about custom painted lids a few monthes back and that is what he came up with twisted cat in the hat pretty cool tho
Sorry guys, been super busy at work. I'll see what I can do about scanning in a copy of the article. As for the cover, I tried wheeling but the space was just too short (it was less than a block long and it dead-ended into a huge brick wall) suffice to say Dave, the editor took the reins while I rode next to him on the 1KRR.
All in all it was a pretty cool feature, I had wished for some dyno time and more comparison but being that the mag wanted to test under street conditions, it worked out.
I'll see what I can do about scanning this thing in.
