Steering Damper????
hi, triax...
your Comments are well taken. and you are right about the suspension step, I spent quite a bit of time setting the bike up, as well as learning about how it "works" under various throttle openings. and you are right, if a dampers saves someone's **** is saved then the $400 is well spent

Thanks, all i was really getting at was that suspension set up is key. If the bike is set up for that sort of riding condition more than likely you'll be ok but most people don't do anything except throw a leg over and ride. Thanks for being understanding, sometime I come off sounding like a jackass.
Mine is a Scotts (obvious, lol). I bought mine off a buddy who had it on his 954rr for street and his 929rr for stunting. He was getting out of the scene and told me he would sell the damper with both mounting brackets (both are the same). But since i have one on my 954 and 929 also. Makes it easier 2 just switch the damper between the bikes....Not a bad deal for the whole $150.00 i gave for the setup, hehe......And NO i will NEVER ride another bike without a Damper. This thing handles soo much better with it....=-)
Check ebay or craigs list...as indicated above, one of the best and immediate things you can do for your machine.
Had a 929 and man before I got the damper, I had a few scares especially on high speed turns and hitting a couple of bumps...I had to clean my underwear afterwards..
I had the Scotts which in my opinion is one the all leading best...worth every red cent..
lol...sold her with 24k miles ...did 17k miles in one season ....
one of the best bikes ive ever had..im sure you would agree...
peace

OK, someone correct me if I'm wrong, but a steering damper is a hydrolic piston or tension device that keeps the bars straight and resists the tendency of them to do a "tankslapper" motion (where they jerk back and forth suddenly). This tendency is typical when setting down a wheelie, or coming out of a fast corner.
Steering dampers are meant to help keep the frame and forks from becoming unsettled which prevent tank slappers. Tank slappers can happen from various situations like high speeds, fast cornering, but most prevelant is while coming down from a wheelie.
