Default Stator Cover Assembly

I searched a little bit but theres so much stuff on stators in here its a little much to sift through it all. Anyway I was reading the manual on putting the stator cover on and it says to apply sealant to the mating side on the crankcase. Is it standard procedure to apply sealant and have a gasket, I thought it was usually one or the other. Any other things I should know before I put this on?

Thanks

when i replaced my stator, i used a lil sealent or liquid gasket to hold the gasket on the motor so i could put the cover on without the gasket moving

Just a light coating just incase of any imperfections on mating surfaces. I always put a small amount on anything with a gasket and never had a problem with leaks. Now some people will over do itand use a half tube, there is need for that.
