spray painting frame & swingarm
#23
I cant say I completely agree, my brother had his swingarm painted when his bike was repainted and that thing held up without a scratch. Its just like any paint, you hit something with it chances are it will chip and flake....time is another factor....
As far as frame and subframe, what kind of abuse do they really take (swingarm pivots so that has a higher chance)? Heat? fix that with hi temp paint. There are no moving parts on the frame and subframe...

i know im gonna use some kinda of enamel so it has a hard finish. then prolly go over that with an emamel clear to protect the paint. i ride conservativley and am **** about chips or scratches. so if it comes to that i can touch it up with more spray until the day comes that i drop hundreds on powder coating...

Sorry but I have a new opinion on the roll bar and chassis VHT can. It says its a 1 step process and I primered and cleared the frame not listening to the can. I tested both ways after the fact that I painted the frame. It's waaaay better without priming it doesn't chip it will just create a dark scratch that's hard to see, my frame has already chipped. I feel like redoing it all over again. About the clear I'm not sure but if I did it over I wouldn't spray primer.

Yeah that VHT paint is made to be in contact with the metal, instead I had it in contact with the primer so it was only as strong as the primer was. When I sprayed my c clamp without primer to test the look of the color I tried chipping away at the paint and I then tried chipping away at my upper triple tree paint which had primer and the non primered c clamp holds up a lot better I swear to god.
PS: the can says it's a one step self primer process.
