Is my fork seal leaking
Fork seal was replaced 1 year ago by a bike ship. The bike had less than 5k miles since then.
More than a year had passed and I figure that it is a good thing to refresh the fork oil. The seals were not leaking and I thought they will be fine for another year or 2.
Took the forks off, got the old oil removed. Got new oil in, cleaned up some of the internals and got the fork bolted back up again.
Took the 929 for a spin. When I parked the bike, I noticed oil on the fork sliders. Not to much that it flowed to the caliper holder. Cleaned up the excess oil and forgot about it.
After 2 short rides, oil starts building up on the slider again on both sides. cleaned those up and adopted a wait and see attitude. I figure that there could be some oil residue between the dust cover and the oil seal that were accumulated there during oil change.
After another 2 short rides, the left side fork was clean. The right side still had oil on the slider. Could it be that the oil seal is leaking? Or is it just residue oil?

did you remove the seal from the tube or did you leave it on while you cleaned everything ?
sounds like the seal is weeping a little bit there maybe something in there or the seal maybe damaged
if you have a set of feeler gauges you can take the smallest one you have and CAREFULLY stick it between the seal and tube and run around the tube if there is something in there you can usually get it out that way

How did you measure how much oil you replaced in the fork? Factory is 90mm of free space with the spring removed and the cartridge fully bled. Overfilled forks can cause weeping as the excess oil is forced past the seals. After a rebuild the forks should not exhibit any leakage. Also check your chrome on the sliders for any nicks or burrs.
I just did mine yesterday. My right fork leg had a blow out and was pouring out oil. Enough to cover my brakes and wheel. That was a scary ride home I will say. I had a new nick on my slider that took a good chunk out of my oil seal.
