Is this through the twisties or straight roads? none the less if your a better rider you should be fine. He does have more power but if the boy can't ride its doesn't mean anything.

I can tell in no uncertain terms that in a straight line contest of acceleration my 02 1000 will munch a 929. An 03 is marginally quicker if any. Some are actually slower depending on who modded it and how much they messed it up. Same applys to any modded bike, unless it's done on a dyno, generally it wont make any more power unless you know damn well what you are doing. He will probably beat you by maybe 6-8 bikes if you go from a roll in 2nd at say 35mph (to eliminate any wheelieing in 1st) and roll to maybe 150 or so. On the curves, go to a track if you want to find out, but then it's open game for the better rider.

i must say that the gsxr 1k will win in a straight away. i use to ride with a group of guys who had 01 - 04 gsxr's in the buch and i couls keep up with the 01 and just be at the heels of the newer ones.. its just older technology vs. newer technology..

here's my theory, If you are going to race from a rolling start, you're pretty much testing the bikes capabilities unless one of you is a squib and cant find the gears. A true race is settled at the dragstrip with a tree. If you can take him down there and provide the slip to prove it, you can say you beat him. But without that slip it's his word against yours.

just remember there are always faster bikes out there. he has 71cc more than you and probably lighter. I have alot of friends with 1k's my 929 holds up with all of them really well. my friends 05 R1 I will pull on him at certain points in a race then he will pull on me then He will stop pulling and we stay pretty even. but he beats me. overall. a little sprint here and their it will be trading places back and forth. I can beat my friends 04 1000RR up till around 155 and he pulls away. its IF you can ride it can be a coin toss but dont be surprised if he beats you. but I wouldnt expect him to leave you in the dust.
