Default major engine work...

just wondering what other people's experiences are with webcams, je pistons, etc...
i have a 2001 that currently has a full m4 exhaust, k&n filter, flapper valve removed from the intake, pair disabled, and i think that is about it.
i had to tear down the engine to the bare block to fix an oil pressure problem; i was having low oil pressure only at idle at high temperature. i replaced the oil pump, the actual sensor twice, and cleaned the oil strainer and replaced the o-ring on the strainer. now, as the last step in troubleshooting, i am going through every oil passageway and cleaning the entire engine.
so while i have it apart i am replacing shift forks, might get gears undercut, replacingmost of the internal bearings and bushings, all o-rings, replacing the oil pump again, putting in a new cam chain, guides, and manual tensioner, power commander and dyno work as soon as the bike is put back together, etc.... i am also replacing the clutch inner and outer baskets (because they are pretty worn from clutching wheelies),putting in factory pro evo-7 detent star kit, velocity stacks, and ignition advance (depending on the following...)
so i am going to soon measure the piston diameter and cylinder diameter, and depending on what measurements i get, (bike does have 23k miles)i am going to do major work, ie:
webcams: http://www.webcamshafts.com/pages/mo..._dohc_16v.html
je pistons: http://www.jepistons.com/cat/je/powe...br_929rr.shtml

also, anybody know where to get valves, springs, seats, etc...?
and if i am going from 11.3:1 to 12.5:1 compression, along with 1mm oversize (954cc baby!!!), should i get carillo rods?
and overall, what do people think of the new parts i am getting?

would it be cheaper to put a 954 motor in it?

since your trying to make your 929 power plant a 954 one!

oh..it would be... it would be cheaper yet to drop a 929 engine off ebay into my bike...
but i dont want to do that, for reasons that are too long to discuss on an public forum...

to make a long story short: i want to do these mod's, just to see if i can do them!
so i am just trying to get advice off anybody else that has done some major work to their 929...

It would probably be cheaper to swap a 954 motor in. You seem technically savy, so i think you could handle it.

For the swap (don't hold me to this entirely), you will need a 954 motor, wiring harness, gauge cluster, and airbox. You will also need to put a few washers under your 929 gas tank so that the 954 airbox will fit.

I would prefer a Honda built motor over some shop-built mill built using after market parts. The 929 motor was constructed under very tight tolerances and I doubt most shops could build a motor better than Honda built the 954, as far as reliability is concerned.

as far as webcams and je goes the shop i work for use both of them and both are very good products. you do have a few options motor wise you could ebay a 929 or 954 motor, or stick with yours and get some high compression pistons and a set of cams and sprockets as for valvetrain components gowww.ferrea.com
i dont know if they offer anything for a 929 but should also i would check oem honda components still good stuff

if you do the homework you can build a motor just as good and maybe even better then honda.

did you ever find out why you had low engine oil pressure. The same thing happened to my bike. I took the oil pan off, cleaned out the pickup (was clogged with clutch pieces) put it back together, rode it for awhile. When it got warm, I still had the same problem. low oil pressure light came on. Then about 3 miles down the road the engine catastrophically disassembled itself.

dropping a fiddyfo engine would be way easier than what i am doing.. but hey, whats the fun in taking the easy way out of things?
i work on huey's everyday... and i have such a wonderful time at work, that i thought i would bring home the awesomeness of major maintenance and mechanics on tight-toleranced components!

i got the engine entirely apart, and there is still crosshatching on the cylinder walls.. so now my dilemma is whether i should take the easy way out, and put my bike together with the current parts... or if i should bore it, and do all the other subsequent modifications. (i mean; cams, pistons, and a machine job is gonna be over a grand... i can take that cash and buy a f4i stunter)

i have been boarding for the past few days, so i haven't had the opportunity to look at the block or pistons more than the glance to see there was still crosshatching, and see that it looked like all the bearings (including the crank) were all getting oil... so i still havent found the oil pressure problem. but i am still thinking it has to be a clog in the oil passageway that the sensor is actually located at. so just clean it out, and hope that it's good!
