so honda for no technical reason decided to cut hole in the headlight cowling and then put litle black rubberr pieces into the slots? maybe

I was thinking that it was a type of ram air design that air enters these slots and then gets channeled to the air tubes on the box.

Looks that way to me. I don't see any functional reason. The rubber pieces close off the hole??? Looks neat though. Racing plastic doesn't have them.

I don't technically know what they are for, but I can draw a couple of conclusions. I have painted my buddies, and my 929's. When I took them off I noticed that the angle of the way the air comes in, is directed toward the windscreen. So, what I guess is that the windscreen could fog up and therefore the wind directed toward it would eliminate this.

The second reason I think they are there is because it might take some force/pressure off the fairing itself. How's this sound?

But as someone mentioned these are block off plates. The stock ones that go behind the fairing are not block off plates. The design is mentioned above, but I'm not sure of their purpose entirely.
