Default help please

I took the bike out for a spin the other day and the red light on the dash was lit up (idiot light) with the FI showing on the speedo window. then it went off. then it came back on. bike ran fine the whole time.

started it today and it stayed on. rode for 20 miles or so and on the whole time. manual basically say to take it to a Honda mechanic for diagnosis.

has anyone had any experiences with something like this? I'd like to take care of it myself without getting *** raped at the dealer.

thanks.

I'd check the air filter to if it hasn't been changed recently.... that'll mess up the air flow and set it off..

found out the idiot light blinks a code to point me in the direction of the problem.

9 blinks. IAT (air temperature) sensor loose or faulty. $14.93 to replace. we'll see what happens.

well.....the saga has ended. I checked the connection to the IAT and the plug was pretty fouled up. cleaned it out real good and put it back together. Turned key............no dice. Still blinking 9 times. Called the local Honda service shop and they clued me in on erasing the codes in the computer. Read in the manual that you have to use a jumper wire to short out the service plug. Voila! After a few failed attempts, we are good to go.
