Default Dead ECM..

Had to hand the bike over to a shop last friday. The damn thing died while i was riding, just lost all power. I couldn't for the life of me figure out what the hell was wrong so i took it to the pro's. They call me today and say they are still diagnosing but they think the ECM is the cause.

Atleast it'll have some new Pilot Powers when i get it back... hopefully it doesn't take them too long to sort the ECM problem. After a short 3 days im dying without my bike.

I got a Honda Shadow VLX to cruise on but it just isn't the same.... pos tops out at like 90mph downhill, only 4 gears..lol

AAAHHHHHH i miss my cbr, i'd rather work on my cbr then drive the VLX

So when your bike died, did all of the circuits shut down or just some of them? My929 lost power to several circuits a couple of days ago. I don't know for sure that it is the ECM, but the signs are kind of pointing to it. The headlights don't work, the ignition coils don't work, the fuel pump doesn't work, the guages display digits, but have no illumination; and the starter will work. Does any of this sound familiar?

When it died i lost everything but the guage cluster. fuel pump, lights, signals, everything. Dealership thought it was the ECM but after diagnosing i somehow broke 2 wires in the wire harness.... So the ECM was ok, but my wire harness is pretty beat up for some reason, i need to replace it after the season.

shes running like a champ for now.

If your fuses are good check for breaks in your wires, or a ground that's not grounded. Could be the ECM, could be a wire somewhere playing hardball. Hard to tell.

good call on the broken wires. bikes are exposed to a lot of elemental damage, especially if they are ridden a lot on the streets.

Thank you for your help, I will have to do some more searching. Hopefully something will show up pretty soon. It sucks not being able to ride.
