crazy tire idea??????
I was up at work reading a auto magazine and saw that they had some hi performance car tires in motorcycle sizes,
I.E.
205 50 17, would that work on a cbr 929?
I currently am running 200 50 17 on my 929,
is it possible to run a car tire on a motorcycle if you can find the right size?
I would think that if you are straight lining it like at a drag strip them maybe but I don't think it would be ideal for street ridding? but if you have large chicken strips then it might not matter!

not going to work, I don't know if you ever happen to notice the shape of a motorcycle tire compared to a car tire but it ain't the same buddy. I thought about using some wagon wheels once because well you know they are round just like my tire. I figure if it was good enough for the pioneers to cross the country well hell its good enough for the mighty 929 to hit up some twisties with.
I know what your saying but what my point was that it could work because the tires are the same size!
and I have owned a few bikes in my short time on this planet.
now if your going in a straight line for say a 1/4 mile or so, the the flat vs the rounded dome of a motorcycle tire wouldn't negatively affect the cornering capabilties that the motorcyle has but are not needed in say a 1/4 mile.

At bike week this year I saw a busa w/ aset of 24s (i think)on the back. You obviously wouldn't want 2 chrome 24s waying you down in the back but I'm sure you could get very lightweight car rims and do the same kind of thing for a drag bike. I'm guessing this isn't a very good idea since profesional drag bikes don't do this. Having two rims inthe back is gunna add a lot of unwanted stress to multiple parts of the bikeso you would need a much stronger/largertransmission along with other things. But maybe you could go w/ a single car rim and a one sided swing arm or something. It's prolly not the best way to makea drag bike but hey if you want to be different then go for it. As for putting a car tire on your bike rims i highly doubt it would work, like Triax was sayingthe inside of the tires are gunna be shaped differently. Even if you could manage to get them to stayon its not gunna be safe, ESPECIALLY at a drag strip. But here's the pic of the busa anyway, it was definitely unique.
bignibb - I assume you're talking about an auto 205-50-17? That's a VERY different tire, if I'm reading you correctly. The "200" on our bike tires means the tire is 200 milimeters wide. The "205" on a car tire refers to its weight rating. The rest of the numbers mean the same stuff - the "50" is the profile of the tire (width versus height), and the "17" is the rim diameter.
The easiest thing to do is go to an auto tire store and look at a 205-50-17. That'll putthe whole ideato bed.
