Cost of a trans rebuild
Well just bought my second 929 and its pops out of second when I shift into it. so the first thing that came to mind was its a bent shift fork. So my question is what else should I buy for the trans while I have the motor out? Anyone have any idea of what kinda prices I'm going to be looking at? Or would it be cheaper to just buy a used motor?

Depends on what you are looking to do with the bike. It would probably be easier and cheaper to buy a used motor, but then you might still need to do what you are doing now. Best bet is to pull the motor send the trans out and have it under cut, replace the forks and be done with it. Then you know what you have. Just my $.02. As far as price, are you pulling the motor, splitting the cases, etc. I was quoted about $500 to undercut the trans, in both acceleration and deceleration sides. That was all the gears. Probably a little over done, but at least its done. You could probably get away with cutting the acceleration side of the first 4 gears and be fine. I just went all in while I had it apart.
Thanks for the reply. Do you remember off hand what the shift forks ran? After buying the bike money is getting tight so I'm trying to make sure I can pull this all off without the gf's head exploding.
I have been tossing around the idea of just changing out the shift fork and seeing where that gets me. I would rather not rip the bike apart if I don't have to and maybe I'm just being to optimistic, but im hoping that the gear will still be ok. I know I have read about just removing the shift fork without separating the case I have searched a few times, but I cant find the thread can someone point me in the right direction or tell me what to do.
Look at page 9-13 of the manual (pg 301 on the .pdf). It seems to indicate that the shift forks can be accessed by removing the oil pan. If you don't have the manual download it from the sticky at the top of the 929 section.
