anyone know how to replace the rectifier on 929
Just found out my rectifier was fried on my 929. Was riding to a gas station one day and turned off the bike while I was putting air in my tires. When I tried to start the bike up all I got was click, click, click, nothing. From there I push started it and was able to leave the gas station, but then when I was at the stop light my dash cluster went blank and it shut off on me again. I couldn't get it started so had to get it towed home. 79 dollars for the tow by the way. Any way took my bike to the shop and they told me it was my rectifier. Well I ordered the part and just waiting for it to come in so I can get my baby rollen but my question is does anyone have a step by step on how to replace it? I'm sure I can take the bike apart and figure it out but I would really like to know how to do the job before hand. Anyone have a step by step, I would really appreciate it.

It's pretty much a remove/replace type operation.
The only trick might be if the connector was damaged by the failure, as is common.
If that's an issue, you'll need to replace the connector, as well.
Alternatively, you can either solder the individual wires and use heat-shrink tubing to
insulate or add individual bayonet connectors to the wires.
The red and green need to be descrete connections, but the 3 yellow wires don't have
a particular order, when making the splices.
You can find new, OEM-type replacement connectors at www.vintageconnections.com
Good luck, Ern

Remove the seats and the rear seat hinge. Pull out the bulb and sockets from the taillight and remove the harness from the holders. Remove the two screws on top and the plastic clips on the bottom and front. Remove tail fairing. The r/r unbolts. Follow the harness to the plug. If its burned fix it, my 929s never have had a burned one so it may be good still. You may need to lift the tank to get to the connector. It runs up under there and can be tricky to get out. Pay attention to the routing of the harness and how it snakes around the frame.
