Default 929 vs 436hp vette

i got an 01 929. its my first bike and my friedns dad just bought an 08 corvette. its got 436 hp and he wants to race. What do you guys think? ive put on about 600 miles on my bike and feel like im pretty good at flyin through the gears. just wonderin about how i should launch too. thought about really slipping the clutch in second so the front end would stay down better or launch in first and justtry and keep it down.

also i seen where someone posted a reply when he downsifted into second and hammered it, the front pops up pretty easy. how easy? not enough to where you can keep it pinned or to where you gotta let off a little?

Where are you going to race?? Stoplights, drag strip, telephone poles?? First winds up faster then you'll get your feet up. Traction contol on the Vette's is unbelievable. They won't roast a tire, he'll hook. It would be fun on the strip, just to see, but I don't think I'd be messin' around racing a car on the street just in case. My 2cents worth. Wear your gear!

Some some randam a*s highway where there is a bunch of room and no one around. i live out in the country up in Iowa, plenty of straight boring roads up there. i dont know how we will set up the race,im guessing we'll just run upto speeds of around 140 to 150 depending on how close it is. i know hes only had his vette going 120 in the past so he wont get too crazy.

Originally from IL,(IL/IA borderand Peoria area) I know all about long, straight roads and holes and cracks they have. I don't think I would have a prob going 100+ by myself or even with another bike, but my concern would be if a car got squirrillly or comes by you at 100+ and pulls the draft on you and your bike. Maybe it wouldn't amount to nothing, some of the other guys on here will probably know. Just think the "what-ifs" out. Do it before the corn gets too high, LOL.

Not trying to throw a wrench in the fun, but think too, if this is your first bike and only 600 miles of seat time, a lot can go wrong fast. I have only put about 2K on mine and I wouldn't say I am 100% comfortable with it and how it reacts. Like I said, I'm just saying and probably over cautious but you know?

yea a 929 isn't quite a "starter" bike, I took the MSF in '05, got 5k experience on a 95 YZF600 and I "upgraded" to the F4i and still don't feel 100% comfortable in the instance of an emergency situation, especially since it's been 2yrs since I had the YZF and the only riding I did in that time was a day(CBR600F) and a weekend(ZX6r) while I was in Vienna last Spring.

to give a simple answer... YES you will beat a stock C6... IF you know how to launch, but doubt in 500miles you know how to... that front wheel will FLY up and you'll have to act quick to either cover the rear brake or easy off the throttle to get it back down, not to mention if you really want to drag race you'd be better off w/ a Busa or ZX12/14 w/ an extended swingarm, you buy a 929 for twisties and track days NOT drag racing...

also your first questions should be... "where do I go to register for the MSF course or are there any private classes you guys would recommend?" "what is countersteering and how do I practice?", "where's the best place to practice evasive manuvers and can someone help me?", and "how do I launch?"

not to be the "I told you so" guy, but while riding can be fun it turn very dangerous quick and the more you learn and the better prepared you are the more you'll be able to enjoy all the hp and torque of that beast you own....

If you knew how to ride the bike fully you would destroy that vette from a dig. I also say dont do it, ever get side by side with a car going 125+ it creates a neat effect of wind that will suck you right at the car if you dont know what the hell you are doing. Its simple, your bike can turn 11 second flat 1/4 mile times, his car will run what low 13's or so. Its no contest, tell him to bug off.

remember your not racing a chevette. just b/c you can fly thru the gears doesnt mean its a easy race. put some miles on the 929 and at the end of the season go get him. not trying to bash ya, just remember if you lose its not the bikes fault.....

i want to go to the strip sometime this year. i know what the bike can do, i jsut want to see what i can do....
