Default 929 motor gave out- Replacing it with a 954

Well at a dissappointing 20,721 miles my 929 spun a rod bearing, so out with the old and in with the new. I ordered a 954 from CA yesterday with 4700 miles on it. I have done car motor swap before, so this is going to be semi familar to me. I have heard/seen many different stories on what you NEED and what not. My question is, what do you actually NEED as a MUST for this swap to work?

You guys should both take a lot of pictures and document it in a thread. That way it can be a sticky for everyone else in the future. From my understanding you need the 954 engine, ecu, and wiring harness. I'm not 100% positive, but I think you retain the 929 airbox. The only research I did was for possibly using a 954 frame on a 929 (I was literally piecing my bike together) and that would require using a 954 airbox on the 929 motor. I never ended up using one so don't know for sure, just spreading rumors. But yeah, motor, ecu, wires and you should be all set.

im not a 100% sure about this so that is why that is at the beginning but i believe that you can use the 954 motor with all the 929 hardware
ie
929 throttle boddies and injectors
ecu
wiring hanress
speedometer

and i say this because the motors are basically the same ecept the 954 is a 1mm overbore of the 929

the other thing is that is for some reason the 929's ecu isnt sending enough fuel for the bigger bore motor then you could always run a 954's pc3 with a map for a 954 in your 929

i think some of the sensors are in different places on the 954's motor like iat and maybe tps but thats a small cut/splice/add wire/splice job

ive heard of this being done but not a expert on the matter myself.

RE: 954motor into a 929bike motor swap

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

I now have a running "929/954rr" and it runs awesome! What a difference from a worn out 929 engine to a fresh (9,100 miles) 954 engine, the thing is flippin fast.I had to use a 954 wire harness, cpu, upper wire harness, throttle bodys, air box, radiator and hoses, gauges and the left hand control switch. I spliced the right hand control switch using a 7pinconector from an old toyota pickup wire harness. I also had to run 3 wires from the upper wire harness to where the tip over sensor mounts under the seat. Other than all that, it's a pretty clean swap.

I also put 954 swingarm on the bike that I got on eBay for $80 shipped, it works and looks nice.

A couple more things I have coming from eBay are, 05 cbr1000 forks with Ohlins springs and a Brembo 19X18 radial mount front master cylinder. This front end's gonna be freakin awesome with the radial mount calipers on my 929's 330 Galfer waves. All I need now are 10mm spacers between the binders and the forks, and a cbr-1k front fender.

I'm glad I decided to give the old 929 a new lease on life. The bikeallready had a scott damper, an Ohlins rear shock, Galfer waves all around and steel braided lines. For ah yr2000 bike, this thing's gonna ROCK!

Thanx for the help guyz.

Default Ecu for 954 to 929

Hello guys. A friend has a cbr 954 that I purchased a donor unit on eBay for him with its harness. That one too turns out to be defective. 929 ecu some some reason I can't fathom are crazy expensive. North of $300 compared to later model cbr 1000. Someone here has a 954 ecu and wiring. Would this work?
