Default 929 H4 bulb exploded. possible reasons?

i've been running a 5.5 inch round headlight on my 929 since i fightered it. today i was riding home and heard a pop come from the headlight, light got dim then turned off. i switched over to high beam, same thing, it was dim then turned off. i ended up riding home about a mile without a headlight but luckily i live in the city so th streets are lit up. upon arriving home, I inspect the headlight and the glass is cracked an i can see the shattered bulb inside. i took it apart and immediately see that the bulb exploded, cracking my headlight from the inside. the bulb is only 2 days old since i had to replace the prior one cuz of a hail storm we recently had. the other bulb worked jus fine up until the hail storm. im thinking th bulb must have had a hairline crack and the gasses inside caused it to pop. any other possible scenarios? a surge of some kind maybe? i included pics to show what happened. thanx everyone.

did any water or moisture get in there? i've seen that happen when a little water touches a hot bulb.

One of the lights on my truck was shattered a few months back, but the bulb still worked as long as the temp stayed below freezing. The first day of rain it went BAM. I heard the pop all the way into the cabin, and when I went to look at it the painted cap end of the glass had been shot off. The bulb was an H7. I'd suspect a similiar thing happening in a closed lamp could very well crack the glass. Was the bulb some cheap one? I wouldn't overlook the possibility of a faulty product...

When you installed the headlight bulb, you might have touched the glass with your bare hands which puts oil onto the bulb and caused it to blowout.

Yup u guessed it Mattson, it was a cheapo. O'rielly's was out of Sylvania so had to settle for some no name brand. So it was either water, oil from my hands or a faulty bulb. I didn't think it was short or a surge in th bikes system cuz th end result wouldn't have been a grenade lol.

I have to drill th holes to sit it on th headlamp I'm using. Even after that, a black cover sits over it. I'm running a spare I had prepared jus incase. I'll update in a week if nothing happens sooner.
