520 chain sprocket conversion

Yes you have to change the sprockets along with the chain. They claim the 520 has better acceleration due to less rotational mass but you will not be able to tell any difference. My 954 had a 520 kit on it when I purchased it and when it comes time for a new chain I will switch back to 530.
If you want to feel a difference just change the gearing but stay with 530 chain for the extra strength over a 520. Also do not buy aluminum rear sprockets because they will wear out fast. The weight savings between aluminum to steel will not increase the performance of your bike either.
Most people go down 1 tooth on the front sprocket and up 1-2 on the back sprocket. Remember though that any gearing change will cause your speedo to off even more than it is now.

I agree with backdoc the 520 chain conversion is more for the person that is already using the bike at 100% and needs more its generally geared more to a pro racer. My brother did it to his GSXR 750. I could not tell the difference even being able to rip it down the autobaun he lives in Germany.
