Default 01 929rr speedometer help!

Hey just got a 929rr and the thing that bugs me the most is half the time the speedo just reads 0mph. Anyone know what to look for and/or change to make the problem go away?! I'm trying to figure it out but im new with bikes and don't even know where to start

Any help would be great!!!

THANKS!

Download the service manual from this site and go through the troubleshooting for the speed sensor connector starting on page 469. Either you have a loose plug and the speed sensor may be bad.

Mine has done that before and it was just a loose connection at the gauges. My tabs are broken off so it wiggles out once in a while. Hope yours is something simple, too.

Did yours show 0mph also or it was just blank?
And where was the loose wire? I cant find a wire that directly goes too the speedometer!

Speed sensor was cleaned and Set back in...still reads 0mph, tightened the connector behind the gauge..still 0
Any other ideas? Any way of testing the speed sensor out before I go and buy a new one?

The service manual will tell you if it can be tested and how to test it.

Check your connections under the right air intake cover. I notice a few of my terminals were nasty.

Not a noob question, the 929 is just new to you......
Look at your tank, on the right side of the tank is that long plastic piece that runs from the tank to the front fairing. That is the air intake tube cover. There are a few bolts that hold it on. I think at least 2 (954 has 2) mounting bolts. Once you remove it, you will see 2 main wiring harness, one blue and one white. Disconnect your battery first then disconnect those and inspect them.
