Default Wheel difference? 98-99 front wheel on 1993-1997 Forks possible??

Well, I was looking into buying a new set of aftermarket rims... Question is, what is the difference structurally between the 1995-1997 and 1998-1999 wheels? Has anyone mounted the 1998-1999 wheels on their earlier year 900's? According to the dealers, the bearings are the same and the rear rotor is the same; however, they have a different axel in the front. I am supposing that they either widdened the forks or narrowed the forks for stabillity.

Changes made during the 1993-1997 = wider spacers, speedo drive gone in 1995, larger rotors and caliper position changed from 1995~

Changes made during the 1998-1999 = ??????

Any insight and experience would be appreciated.

I dont know too much but here it goes....
On 98 & 99 RR's Honda widened the triples and increased the rotor size and relocated the attachment for the brake calipers.
The lower forks (where the calipers attach) of 96 & 97 RR's are lower to accomidate the smaller rotors.
As for spacers I dont know.. On my 98 I put an f3 17" rim and it sucked... I made shims and redrilled a new
patter into my rotors to fit the rim.
Hope this helps

That seems kind of odd that all of that had to be done to fit the 17" I measured a friends F3 rim and rotors etc and it seemed to me if I bolted my rotors off the 16 to his 17 and used all my hardware that it would have bolted right on. Mines a 99 so should be no different than your 98. Are you sure you got an F3 rim and not some F2 knock off?

You might be right, I got the wheel from a friend who said it came from an f3. The mounting pattern for the 17" rim rotors was just a hair smaller than my 900 rotor, so instead of drilling the holes bigger, I drilled new ones in my 900 rotors and used them.
