Hey guys I have a problemmy engine has no stamp or anything to tell me what year it is. I know its either a 1995 or 1996 900rr. but is there anyway of telling? I bought the bike a year ago and im replacing the exhaust manifold and mid pipe, its an f2 frame. thanks.

 

Somewhere, on the engine case, is stamped the size. I think it's in the area under the carbs. I have a 919 motor in my RR, and I'm pretty sure that one of the differences between it and the 893 motor is, the 919 motor has a site glass on the right side, for checking the oil. The motor date number is stamped on the top of the case, above the clutch cover. The 919 motors start with SC33E-2XXX...

1996 will be SC33E-2000......
1997 will be SC33E-2100......
1998 will be SC33E-2200......
1999 will be SC33E-2300......

The pipes on both motors will interchange. The difference in pipes (stock ones) is the orientation of the bolt-on muffler. The 93 to 95 stock pipe has the 3-bolts for the muffler in the 2, 6, and 10-o'clock positions. The96 to 99motors have the 3-bolts in the 3, 8, and 10-o'clock position.

ok so i looked and found HM 893 cm 3.......so im assuming it is a 1995? also these numbers might not mean anything but they were on the bottom of the engine. 237 MWO

 

Yeah, 893 is a 93-95 motor. The number on the bottom you found is a part number, for what, I'm not sure. See if you can find a microfiche to download, for the 95 bike. One of the members on this forum, may have one on their web site. I think it is stephyg.com (probably not spelled right). She has a bunch of stuff like this, there.
