Full synthetic all the way baby. You'll have less time between changes because it doesn't break down nearly as fast as conventional oil. Your engine, any engine, will thank you. Six or seven dollars a quart is a small price for guaranteed long engine life.[sm=yeahsmile.gif]

I had a mechanic once tell me that there is relatively no difference between the oils other than price. If you change your oil as scheduled or even more frequently it doesn't matter how long it takes them to break down since the oil will be replaced before it's full life. If you're not one to change the oil every 2-3 thou then go more synthetic I do mine frequently so I use regular oil.

Regular oil. Chevron 10w40 by the case at costco is like $1.50 a quart. change it as often as you like. every 1500 drain the oil and every 3-4000 change the filter. it exceeds manufacturers spec as most any dino oil will. i run it in my race dirtbikes and change it often. I laugh when people complain that it cost them $15.00 to change dirt bike oil or $40.00 to change the street bike.

However, if you are lazy on maintenance and a lot of riders are. buy the expensive stuff and go longer. but every time i tear a motor down it is clean after using regular dino oil. I've had shops split cases for me and tell me how nice everything looks and what oil do i use. they fall over when i say i've been running chevron 10w40 in it for x number of years. Just my experience with my own bikes. i currently have 6 counting the kids 3 dirtbikes and i have had 1-3 bikes in the garage since i was 16 and i am 37 now. so 21 years of trying different oils in every major manufacturer on street and dirt both. Currently i run Honda on the street and honda and kawi on dirt. but i have raced and/or just run all the japanese makes and even husqvarna.

Whatever you choose. you gotta feel blessed to be able to ride. it is the best freedom i have ever experienced.....

Wow, what a great post fff88, so I only think synthetic is better. I've been misled by the oil industry, again! I have to keep using it, though, I just have to. I'll never get it in my head not to--but it doesn't really matter. I guess it's like saying chocolate creme pie is better than banana because it stays on your face longer. Riding definitely is the best freedom. Thanks for the info.

What kind of oil is in there now? Often older bikes (or cars) that have been on regular oil their whole life will leakif you switch them to synthetic. But if its been on synthetic I'd stick with it, there areseveral advantages to using synthetic.

I run Catrol 10w40 High mileage. On the back of the container, in the info spec circle, you'll notice that it doesn't say "energy conserving" in the lower half of the circle. I wish I could tell you more about why I run it, I just remember reading into it years ago, and finding that this was the best thing for Honda cycle engines. I think it has to do w/ the adatives in the oil. Maybe someone can explain better. Hopes this points you in a good direction.

The composition in a synthetic oil will last longer and withstand higher tempreture than normal mineral oil. Beside from the longer interval of oil change, I noticed the engine runs much lighter and smoother as well.

But I've heard from bikers that some of thier bikes had engine oil leaking after using synthetic especially older ones.
