I got a 97 engine for my 94 bike and my original engine did not have this.

I'm talking about the red thing with the stud.
Do I need it and what do I do with it?

ACCORDING TO MY MANUAL IT IS YOUR CAM CHAIN TENSONER.. I HAD NO IDEA EITHER DON'T FEEL BAD.

 

Yes, you should be glad, actually. Someone installed an APE manual cam chain tensioner lifter--all is well padowan...

The bolt is adjustable to eliminate cam chain noise--an annoying little gremlin virtually guaranteed on most CBR's...and in fact I'm due to get that exact part, yep, anytime now...

 

So I will leave it alone and be glad I have it.

I have one but have not yet got the nerve up to install it. It scares me to mess with the cam chain.

 

Dude you still haven't changed it yet? Just do it man. Once you do you will be glad you did and surprised at how easy it was.
