Default Well that didnt work out as planned......

Well today was fairly nice out so i figured i would try out an experiment on the bike. I was bored and boredom usually equals stupid. Here is what i did, I though i would take the airbox off the bike and modify it per say. WEll i started with removing the neck inside the lid, then i ground down the dam, lastly to add insult to injury i cut a hole in the lid right above the air filter itself. the holes maybe 8' by 1.5'.

It wont even start now, it started for a minute then died, i hooked up the fuel lines so i know its not that. It was dark when i put it back toghether so im hoping that maybe i just have something not right. I dunno. There isnt much in that area that i could have missed or knocked off so i will have to do further inspection in the morning. Guess im buying a new lid tonite off ebay or somewhere. Really not in a rush since its winter and i prolly wont be riding again till april. But what does everybody think. Too much air ? or is something amiss in the re install.

haha you really messed up something. Though its not a good idea to cut a hole like that, its not that big (8 x 1.5) to totally crap the bike from running I guess. Patch back the hole and see what happen. You must had messed up something unintentionally during re install. I got a feeling your choke cable might be pulled in the assembly area; check those first.

Sounds like the air/fuel mixture is totally out of whack. Try patching it or replacing the airbox with a new one.

WEll im a dumbass.....lol
In last nights nurry to put it together in the dark without even a flashlight mind you , i forgot the second small line that goes to the petcock.I hooked it up. and after a couple turns she fired right up. Now it runs like **** but hey it runs and its driveable. I just have to stay outta the throttle or its just falls on its face. too much air.... Can i get away with jetting the hell out of it or should i just cover cover the whole. There has got to be an advantage to all this extra air if i match it with fuel right?

Put the airbox back to stock. Then get a large hammer and with careful aim smack yourself on the end of your pinky finger. Each time you feel like carving up perfectly functinal parts of the bike without a plan move to the next finger. This will eventually cure your case of tinkeritis.

LOL!! couldn't agree more.

If you are looking and expecting some results on your bike performance by doing that.. sorry to break the ice, it won't help much. Even there is, it won't be noticeable after all.
I have a KN, jetted my carbs and a full exhaust yet still the difference is just marginal.
