[:@] OK i recently lost my motor on a ride think i spun a bearing had some bad knocking well i bought a newer 99 motor to go in my 95 bike well got the motor installed it cranked it up and sounds good and runs fine well i took it on a test ride shifted into second and the all the suden it sliped back into first on its own i couldnt belive it so i did it again and the same result so i jumped on my local forum and everyine said either the dogs are worn or the shifter fork is bent well i repulled ht e motor and took the oil pan off and nothings looks bent gears look good its hard to see second and first they are hidein but the fork is not bent as far as i can see but this is the first time i looked in atthe tranny so if anyone has anything that could help me or web sites with parts or any ideas i would greatly thank you

Sorry man. I got nothing for you off the top of my head if you checked that stuff and it all seems fine. Are you shifting it with authority? I can only assume that you are. On occasion if I would shift to 2nd doing wheelies I wouldnt get it in all the way and it would pop back out into Nuetral. That is all i can add man. Good luck. Something is obviously MIA in there.

 

Could it be an external linkage problem? maybe something is blocking the linkage or hitting against it, or maybe the adjustment is different for the 99 motor. I have a 99 900RR and I've always thought the shifting was a bit notchy, but it's never done that.

 

The 900rr was notorious for trans troubles in 2nd gear. My 94' had the same problem, the solution is to either replace the worn "ears" on the gear by undercutting the trans or by replacing the gear itself. It will not get better on its own and there is NO adjustment to make it better either.[:@] sorry man[>:]

 

Well i think James said it best sorry about the bad news guy. Well here is some good news, if you buy a manual and find a budy with some mechanical knowledge you can fix this problem in the garage in about 6 or 7 hours + a couple of 100 in parts. My friend just did the same thing to his black bird and it runs like a new bike now.

 

Couldn't he just transplant the trans out of his old motor??? Or was that destroyed when your motor went out??? Just a thought...

 

That would be my thought just take the 2 trannies and make a good one may take some time but it won't cost anything since you already have one. my suggestion would be to take the one out of the bad motor first that way you can use it as a learning experience. +1 batman911

 

I had a problem with 2nd gear on my 95 and I took it to the honda dealer and it cost around 2500 bucks. They changed the shift forks and 2nd 4th and 5th gears, so if you can do it at home I would at least try it and save alot of money.

 

i am having the exact same problem.. it will be fine in 2nd but when i get on it hard it pops into nuetral...that sucks
