timing chain
Hi, I need to change the timing chain on my 1998 CBR900. (Starting to make a noise. Just over 50 000km on the clock)
Is this an easy job? Any advise or thing to warn me against?
Thanks

AT 50K u shouldnt need to change the cam chain, more likely the cam chainn tensioner has given out and needs replacing - known fault with most hondas.
u didn;t make clear if 50 K Km or mles but either way my answer holds true.
edit ( yeah ok 50K Km's - nah @ 35K miles your cam chain will be fine - change the tensioner

Thanks for the replies. I've noticed that cbrforum isn't notifying me when someone replies on my posts
So I solved the noise timing chain by removing the cap of the CCT sprayed some oil down there and twisted it a few times with a screwdriver and the noise was gone.
This week it started making that noise again but not constant so I did the same again and now the noise is gone. If it comes back I'm afraid the CCT is probably shot. The problem is Honda charges me about the same price for the CCT as for a new timing chain which is ridiculous.
I was looking into those after-market adjustable ones which are much cheaper. I have one problem with using those...
From what I understand the original Honda one is dynamic which means it just keep s tension on the chain at low ref and then slackens at high ref because then there is more tension on the chain. Now if you go and put something on there that you adjust to put tension on the chain at low refs (when there's usually noise) Isn't this gonna stretch your chain at high refs? (reducing the life on your chain and possibly causing it to brake) ?
