Default Thinking About Buying a 919RR...

Hey all... I have been looking for a bike to upgrade to. I found this bike and it looks good...

1996 CBR900rr

What do you think it is worth? What info should I get about it before I take a look? Anything in particular with this model I should look for?

Thanks in advance guys, I appreciate the feedback!

Looks good, check the forks, prolli need to replace the seals. it's got a cage it's been stunted for sure. Not bad for the price if in good shape.
If you want a better cage or wheelie bar let me know, got some for sale!

Yeah, I noticed the cage and figured it had been stunted. Also looks like it has a spray bomb paint job. Do these bikes go through alot of seals or are you assuming that because of the age? I'll for sure check for fork pitting anyway. Is there nothing specific to these bikes that commonly goes wrong?

Just mentioned the fork seals cause if it's been stunted then it's done wheelies, coming down hard & often like that will take it's toll on the forks and seals.

One main thing to check is the charging system. Lots of people end up replacing the regulator/rectifier at least once, I did. Grab a multi-meter and check the voltage when the bike is off and when it's running, make sure it's not over or under charging. pretty sure the '96 didn't have a fuel pump so no worries there. These are pretty reliable bikes overall

The guy claims it was never stunted, but being that I have stunted my bikes, I know what to look for.

I will bring a voltmeter for sure. Thanks for the head up! Glad to hear it is a solid model!

Default Factory

I've purchased 94 CBR 900rr with 18k miles on it for $3100 on eBay. Shipping cost $700. 3 years later, I have replace the fork seals by Honda mechanic for $100 at 23K. Replace the clutch switch for $20 DIY. Replace the radiator coolant switch for $22 DIY. Other than that, I love these 900rr 93-99. I can tell you one of the main reason I pay more than normal is that eBay you can use your credit card for payment. If you buy local, you must pay in full with cash. The 2nd reason I purchase this bike is that the paint & decal is all original 1994 Honda factory theme. This really says alot about what previous owner have done to motorcycle. 3rd reason is the seller actually listed a picture of bike (maybe by mistake) showing the Ohio license plate number. What I'm trying to say is not only shop for the bike, you must shop the seller. You rather purchase a plain bike without any modification from old guy with kids than and loaded custom bike with turbo etc...that is if you want something reliable for daily commute. If your buying a track bike or project bike, then it's different story. Look at the little things... Is the plate current? Is the odometer cable attached to the front wheel tamper with, if you see markings, this will mean seller may have riden bike with the odometer cable disconnected. Is there too many aftermarket decal sticker? Too much, is seller trying to hide a few rashes. All in all, when buy used, 50% luck, 50% buyers beware.
