Steering Stabilizer or Damper for 93 900RR?
I'm looking for a steering damper for my 93 fireblade, but the only one I can find online that fits my bike is this one from a Japanese brand called Shindy (I think they are also called Targus) but are marketed in the US as Daytona:

Has anyone used these, or are they a waste of money? I was looking for a Scott's or GPR, but neither make a mounting kit for pre-1996, and this one is a lot cheaper ($187 versus $400+ for the Scott's).
Is anyone using a center-mount stabilizer on thier pre-96, and what kind of modification does it take? It's not really important enough to me to drill the frame in that critical area right behind the triple . . .

MI900RR,
Well we just to early of a 900 so we have to shop around to find good stuff. As you have found out Scotts doesn't make anything for the early models.[sm=wtf.gif]
There is another one out there for the 92 thru 94 that mounts back behind the clocks has 13 positions and can be had in several diffrent colors.[sm=pimp.gif]

Thanks for the link ZRX1, I will check out the Sprint manufactured one. Have you ever used that brand or know anyone that has and have first hand experience with the quality? From the pic, the Daytona brand stabilizer just screams cheaply made to me. I meant that the quality is probably very loowwww from my comment about the price compared with the Scott's (the only brand of stabilizer i have ever used first-hand so can compare to). Since I started looking, I have found two of the Daytona stabilizers on ebay, both with bent and deformed piston shafts . . . not a good indicator I think.
I've owned about four bikes and never once have I ever needed a stabilizer, hopefully that day never comes.
Even when I lifted the front wheel of my 900rr by accident in 1st gear I didn't get into a tank slapper thank God!

I've never needed one either and I am not a really aggressive rider, but some friends that ride with a GPR or Scott's say that they will never ride without, for the little added safety and also because they say it improves the overall experience and reduces fatigue on long rides. Mostly just interested in trying it out for more than just a quick test ride, so looking for one that is compatible and an easy install.

MI900RR,
I here what you are saying, nobody wants to learn the hard way with a tank slapper. Can it happen just normal riding?
I also have been lucky for as many yearsriding on the streets, but it doesn't take much to get the front end slapping. Some of the tires I see guys ride on or not keeping the maintenance up just adds to the
possibilities, or hitting apot hole whileattempting to miss it, or other crapout in the road.
I also would have to agree with your friends on long rides the fatigue will set in. When riding on long trips even on the Gold Wing it is great to have the cruse control and can rest your right hand/arm.
So on my bikes, Yes I have Sprint on my 1993900RR and on the 929 I have a GPR, Being able to adjust them isReal Nicejust for the stability whileriding I will rate then asa "you need one"if your are going to express way riding.
My$.02 and I am sure other will pitch in with how they feel about there's.

Thanks, I did a little googleing, and from what I can find Sprint seems to be the highest quality option available for these bikes. I am definitely buying one.
I think the risk for headshake or a tank slapper is pretty low unless you are an aggressive rider, but I have a nightmare scenario that keeps playing out in my head involving unexpected transitions in the road surface or huge potholes. I think the track riders on here would know a lot more about it than me, most the tank slap videos I see (not counting the wannabe stunting squids) involve high speed and too much throttle over a rise in the surface. I just figure better safe than sorry, and if it makes long rides more comfortable it is worth a few hundred bucks.
